That should be interesting , like others I've got a lot of respect for Geoff but I'm not at all sure about Alexander Jarvis he seems like a bit of a fantasist
Who's arguing ? It was a while ago I admit but from memory the money was donated/raised in an attempt to buy a seat on the Board. But Pearson came along and knocked the idea back, so the money was spent on the social club, again against Pearson wishes because he said it would be in opposition to the bars at the ground. But they went ahead, I didn't vote for it, my vote went to sponsoring the junior teams. I thought they paid too much at the time especially when breweries were offering leaseholds all over the shop at that time. As it was it fell flat on its face.
'SportyCo and their representatives will present their proposal to the Allam family over the coming weeks....'. Oh FFS. That is just about the last thing I wanted to hear. I've gone from 95%+ certainty that something will happen this time, and in good time for the coming window, to >5% Anyone else now fear what's coming ........
Generally, fans are looking for an owner who will invest in the players etc, quick fix. There has been a lot of owners from various countries that have come in and made a right mess of it, and there is nothing to say that these new owners could well fall into that category. I'm looking at things more long-term, soon there will be IMO a European league, and the big boys will sign up to it eventually. That will dissipate money that will go to the EPL by TV companies, and clubs like us are going to probably be content with revenue which is generated match days, i.e supporters. Therefore in time, the German model looks to me to be the way forward for clubs like ours to survive. This approach by the HCST might be a bit early or too late for this particular time, but in the future, I feel it could well be the way forward.
Give us a rundown on your doomsday scenario please matey, then I may be able to estimate a level of fear. What is it that you fear coming our way?
At 659 pages & over 13,000 comments is this our most commented thread ever? Or did the fish n chip debate beat it lol
Protracted discussions for several more weeks when it looked like the PD consortium was very close to completion. Such discussions continuing even into January, leaving it too late to invest in the window. PD's backers, and maybe even the 3rd unknown bidder, giving up and walking away. Fans becoming even more pissed off with the 24 hour saga; even more damage, some of which is already irreversible. On the other hand, maybe the Allams really do just want out and as soon as possible now, so if PD's consortium's offer is sufficiently acceptable to them, maybe they will just take it this time, knowing that they've ****ed up when offers were there for the taking previously. Ok, who the **** am I trying to kid. Personally, I'm growing totally sick of the whole damn thing. Maybe time for me to also walk away from all this **** and just wait for an announcement one day that they've ****ed off. Although maybe by then I'll be like the thousands who have already done this who likely realise it's just not worth it, have found something better to do with their life, and so don't return.
Your main fear seems to be having to endure a bit more of the same fxxkwittery that we have had to put up with since this particular thread started. (We were a premier league team, Steve Bruce was at the helm and we were about to be sold) I share your angst, hang on in there Mr Driff... Keep The Faith and all that. Better times ahead.
