Watched the new Dr Who.... think she will be an improvement on the last one.

I wasn't a fan of Capaldi and thought Moffat was taking it in the wrong direction, it had lost its element of fun.

Thought last night, some of the dialogue seemed forced and the story was kind of simple. Also a couple of awful attempts at 'Northern' accents.
But Whittaker was decent with room to settle in the role and the companions have a better feel to them than the last two.

Obviously I recognised about 90% of the locations. I drive past that Crane yard every Wednesday.

I completely agree on Moonlight and would go the same as yourself with a 6
Mancs by the Sea 6.8/10 I enjoyed it but nothing special.
La La Land though I enjoyed and would go 8.5/10 really enjoyed it.

The best Doctor for me was Matt Smith, probably because he's a good actor.

I agree with all your points. As you say first episode always sounds a bit clunky until the relationships develop.

Think story was necessarily simple because they decided to intro new doctor and multiple companions all in one episode.... now it's out of the way they can crack on.

They've promised a lot more off world this season which is what I want.

Yeah @luvgonzo Matt Smith has been the best since the reboot.

Always though Dr Who had to have the right blend of comedy, eccentricity but with a veiled menace as well in the character. They are alien ...look human but definitely non human ...

Watched first episode of Rise of Pheonixes on Netflix.

Don't quite know what to make of it but I think I like it.... although season one has 60 45 minutes episodes lol... I'm assuming that's a mistake and it's actually a few series stuck together!

I think the pace might put a lot off. I think it's necessary as the story looks like it's big and complex and not to be rushed but I think it will make it a chore to binge watch lol: with subtitles and scheming plots you cant really watch without concentrating.

Maybe 3 episodes at a time.

    It's is beautifully made though.

Watching Jack Ryan. It's basically a take on part of the plot of the Jack Ryan novel Executive Orders.

    Yes, it starts well though.

I am presuming there a sub plot that will continue into season 2

I'm half way through. Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it. I understood they'd have to make the young Ryan character develop through middle eastern conflict rather than the originals cold war experiences.

Maybe I'm just getting a bit of a malaise on middle East terrorist type stuff. I'm sure people felt like that about the cold war stuff in the eighties lol.

The actors they've got are very good though... and at least they've tried to go beyond a one dimensional bad guy.

Shows how much you watch/pay attention too. There was a Doctor inbetween Smith and Whittaker.

Watched it last night, mate. ****ing wonderful. Even the unit came off the laptop and watched it with the earphones out so she could hear all of it. Hilarious when he was taking the piss out of one of the board members for crying when his bird shed a tear. Welcome back, Saul Goodman <laugh>
