It’s probably meant to be a harmless task, but not a very well thought out one.

I have to say it displays a certain insensitivity at this time. Surely the teacher could have found a less controversial subject for her class to write about.

It doesn’t specify that it’s specifically RE on the paper.

It’s still more than a tad insensitive at this time.

Flip it, and see what happens when Muslim kids take home a paper, converting to Christianity.

There’d be outrage from certain people. Unfortunately, I have to agree.

Homework in general is just awful. I never bothered with it unless it was art for some reason, I don’t even like drawing, I must have wanted a **** off the big jugged teacher or something.

    I’ve turned out just fine.

I don't think kids should be spoon fed the insanity of religion. Let them discover it in their own time and then they can decide what they do and don't believe in. Personally I think it's a crock of ****, a viewpoint I had reinforced this weekend. Too much bad **** happens to good people for there to be an all loving god. If there is a god then its got a ****ing warped sense of humour.

    It's not for me Jeff.

Thanks, I'm fine. Just some sad news about someone we know but no different to the sad news we're all surrounded by on a daily basis and which has long made me think that any god who oversees such a ****fest is not for me.

God sees and controls everything therefore he has chosen for me not to believe he exists.

I agree kids shouldn’t be spoonfed any religious doctrine. However they should be made aware of it, they need to know what all these churches, mosques etc are there for.

Equallly, they should be made aware of the theory of evolution.

Ultimately, it’s for every individual to choose what they believe in.

I think that there's a place for Comparative Religion is schools, where kids are taught the basics of different faiths.
When you see it all laid out historically, as well as the various ways that they interact and intersect, then it's useful to know.
It also makes a lot of people realise quite how much bollocks they've been taught, which is a nice bonus! <laugh>

He looks like he thinks that he's come up with some sort of new gotcha for atheists and isn't prepared for that answer, at all.

The question it begs is how Muslim parents would react to a homework task of "Write a letter to your family explaining why you are converting to Christianity or Judaism" ... frankly, it is an I'll thought out initiative from the school and there are undoubtedly better ways to educate kids about other religions ... my own daughters got to visit mosques, Sikh temples and synagogues .. all of which were positive experiences for them and all of which I was wholly supportive of ...

It's a pathetic piece of homework to give...has anyone ever thought that lots of Muslims get sick and tired of having to indirectly feel like ****s through this kind of stupid ****.
