Yesterday's official attendance figures at the Valley (vs Coventry City) were frankly atrocious. 11,743 ... doesn't look too awful at first glance - at least compared to others this season? Until you take into account that 1,879 were away fans. That leaves an official figure of 9,846 Charlton fans inside the Valley. An official figure of less than 10,000. In reality I doubt if there were any more than 7,000 home fans present for that game. These are the official attendances of home fans for every home league game so far this season (away fans removed from figures) 8,994 ... vs Shrewsbury Town 9,017 ... vs Peterborough United (midweek) 8,730 ... vs Fleetwood Town 9,280 ... vs Wycombe Wanderers 9,805 ... vs Plymouth Argyle 9,846 ... vs Coventry City ... highest of the season so far?? I can scarcely believe that the home crowd yesterday against Coventry was the biggest this season so far. Granted that simple observation of crowd density is not an accurate method of measurement, but I thought the home stands looked slightly less well populated than they were during the last home game against Plymouth. Having all our home attendance figures below 10,000 so far (and two below even 9,000 for Saturday afternoon matches) is shocking enough, when you can easily take off 2,000 and maybe 2,500 from those official figures to give you an idea of the real attendance. But the figures stating that yesterday was the best attended game so far this season really does stretch credibility. __________________________________________________________________________ In the near future I will add some more attendance stats in this thread, including away attendances and home attendances since 2007 (where the figures are available).
11,700 I had a good look at the West - very empty, and the East - no better than 25% full. Both NW Quads were sparsely y populated. The North Upper was no more than 50% full at best. The Lower North the same. There is no way that attendance yesterday was anything more than 8,000 - including 2,000 Coventry.
Interesting. I would estimate a quarter full - North stands maybe half full but in the other stands huge swathes of empty seats everywhere but in the central areas - not to mention the closed blocks of course. 6,500 to 7,000 at a rough guess.
With me going to the cake and bake the wife joined me at the valley yesterday. There was a spare going and the wife was saying about us not sitting together. She thought I was taking the p$as when I started laughing.
I have a season ticket but haven’t bothered with the last 2 home games, so you can knock me off the attendance for starters. Gonna be so easy over the winter to think ‘nah not today’
I'm not having that Billy, SeriouslyRidiculous says we have 10k in The Valley every week. He was certain that after Luton and our wonderful unbeaten run we'd have a further 500 in for Coventry.
Checkatrade Trophy tomorrow evening. Just the thing to lift everyone's spirits and put our league worries behind us. Should be at least 10,000 in the Valley. A crushing victory over the mighty Stevenage will banish the negativity - and we will have 11 days to bask in that glory before we play again. Plenty of time for all our crocked players to get fit once more
Er... Should be at least 10,000 Gillingham fans in the Valley. Biggest crowd of the season so far I expect. Come on you Spurs! Respect to any Charlton fans traveling to Stevenage tomorrow evening - I hope our reserves make the journey worthwhile.
For what it’s worth, I thought the North Upper did their best on Saturday to try to generate some atmosphere. It’s Mission Impossible at the moment, when you have a 27,000 stadium with 7,000 fans in it. It’s stupid to pretend otherwise ?
It’s like an upmarket version of Bromley Common. At least Stevanage’s sole claim to fame isn’t a Toby Carvery
