Maybe we only win 5 of 38 games as we were 10 players short in each game. There are other players, and whilst he is, well a bit ****, we ain’t scoring so much either. That said, I thought today was his best game since we beat Palace away last season.
Tom being the voice of reason?, wtf is going on this season?. FWIW I don't think that any of our team played particularly poorly today and i'm reserving my criticism to the way that Sparky set us up at the start of the match. It really was a training exercise for Chelsea for the first quarter of the game and quite embarrassing as the home team. We must've conceded about ten corners and given our shortcomings at set pieces that was asking for trouble. Five at the back just does not work for me as we give up too much possession that way and good teams punish you eventually if you are always on the back foot. We were much better in the second half and at least made a game of it but the greater quality of Chelsea decided it. I think that they are up with City and Liverpool as being in a different class to the rest although Arsenal are working hard to join them. I feel no need to feel any different after this match as this result will happen more often than not against the best teams.
Although our inquest is set to continue for a few more days, I'd just like to say how impressed I've been with Chelsea & Sarri. No moaning about Thursday night football, none of the big club bluster, just some hard work & some top players to go with it. I wouldn't be surprised if they pip L'pool to second and take a cup on the way. Fair play blues. Good luck keeping Hazard come May!
Problem is that we don’t play this well against lesser teams, and there aren’t many lesser teams. We don’t seem to be able to win against anyone. Not today, nothing expected today, but our form is relegation form and if we don’t start winning by end of this month we gonna have to take action and be ready to buy in Jan or there is a huge chance we go down. Last season was no fluke we finished so lowly.
In reality , how will they go ? I don’t want MH out , and if the other two were going to be given there marching orders , it would have been at the end of last season surely . I get you want them out , and are not saying we can get rid , but what’s your reply to my initial comment ?
It should be relegation form. But in reality, just like last season, there is a very strong chance that it's actually "really, really bad, but three sides are still worse than us" form. As illustrated last season, you really don't need to be particularly good to survive. (Now I accept that that is an awful mentality to have. And at some point it will catch up on you, like it did on Villa and Sunderland. But I blame the board for that. If they're going to sell off the silverware, and not replace it, then we don't have much choice but to look for three sides worse than us. I don't look at this squad and think that a better manager - and there are better managers than Hughes - would be doing a whole lot better. I see a squad that is poor, and under-invested.)
Why? In the first 20 mins it seemed like they had corner after corner, attack after attack and a goal was inevitable and we had nothing. Then we played ok for 5-10mins which was promising then they scored. There was never any doubt who was going to win. Yes Chelsea are a good side, but I never thought they got out of 2nd or 3rd gear. You just knew they could raise it if needed to, whereas we couldn't. Yes we could have scored, Ings should have, but we can't even score that many when dominating games, chance of us scoring when we are being dominated is very very small. Anyone who thinks we wont be in a relegation scrap this season; well frankly can you tell me what you are drinking or smoking?
I agree but we need to do something about it to avoid staying up by luck. I thought Swansea blew it last season and allowed us to trickle over the line. Seriously, if we don’t have more points than games played by end of Oct, I’d be moving Hughes on as we need to do something to arrest the slide.
I don’t think anyone is saying we won’t be in the mix for relegation. Just that today really wasn’t that bad. Of course Chelsea didn’t have to get out of 2nd gear, they are a far better side than us and we are ****. But in the grand scheme of things we didn’t play all that badly
Oh completely. It's fantasy for anyone to think that we saved ourselves last season. We stayed up because Swansea were somehow even worse than us. We did the bare minimum to survive. But that is kind of my point. Christ, WBA almost stayed up based solely on matches in April and May. We were that bad last season, and we still didn't go down. And as poor as we've been this season, I don't think we've been as bad as last year.
Think he said scrap rather than actually relegated, which I don't can't think can be disagreed with at the moment.
I seen enough today for knowing we will be safe, another day some of them chances would have gone in....unfortunately for us we played a very very good Chelsea team (better than Liverpool IMO) .......there will be at least 3 teams worse than us.
I think we'll be alright too when it comes down to it but we're certainly going to be in the battle for it. I'll be a bit more worried if/when Sam rocks up at Cardiff.
I have been to many games against the top 4 or 5 when we have given it a really good go, and felt proud to win or loose because we gave it a good go. Blamed our defeat on a dodgy ref's decision or a moment of brilliance which resulted in our plucky lot not getting their just desserts. Quite frankly we were poor. We are so unclinical in front of goal, and I could scream because its been that way for a few seasons now. The fact we played £20m for Carillo is laughable, and I notice he isn't playing at Levantes who are bottom of Liga. Although not sure if he is injured or not
