Doesnt mean it like that though, we tried for at least 5 strikers, all bids failed so another would have been a knee jerk decision. I genuinely think we did make an effort to sign a striker, but are too stubborn with our policy.

Well at least this disappointing statement leaves us with a lot of questions we apparently get to throw at the board.. thats the only positive i can see.

i think and apology would have gone a long way too.. but nothing.. i feel like they don't want to take any responsibility.

fair enough they brought some quality in but the fact is we wasnt desperate for a LB until enrique left.. we wasnt desperate for a midfielder until nolan and barton left.. arguably we did need wingers. so maybe they can take some praise for that but the fact is we have been desperate for a striker since end of january we have known this.. yet we chased targets for non vital positions first and left it too late to secure the striker

im happy with the signings we made but did they really need to be brought in ahead of a top quality striker.

also where the hell was the intent to resolve the striker issue in the statement.. no reassurences.. does this mean we are not activly seeking a striker for january.

they are both rich men im sure they can conduct business but ffs where is the communication skills

I disagree mate. Yes like you say scouting of players could have happened, but deals, or agreements can also be put in place before the window opens, they just can't physically join another club till window officially opens. I've seen this happen many times before.

Carlton Cole would have been a bit more than a knee jerk reaction.

But you have to pay over the odds for quality strikers these days (the likes of Madrid, Chelsea, Citeh, Utd, Liverpool all blow that out of the water) to compete with teams in and around us (i.e £10.6 mil Fulham paid for Ruiz) and if you do manage to pay a good price for a striker then he probably in his last year of his contract and passed it.

Course he does. He's a PR man he slips it in, the fans naturally agree, he and Ashley come out smelling of roses.

Effectively being too stubborn isn't an excuse unless prices quoted are ridiculous and I doubt we were given 5/6/7 ridiculous offers in a row.

We needed 5 players on top of what we had, we brought 7 in, and lost Barton, Enrique, Nolan and Forster. Still need 2 players for me, with the main priority being a striker.

Basically this is my point. We aren't willing to pay normal prices for players. We ONLY get bargains. We desperately need a striker, enough to buy one for a normal price not a bargain. We can't keep waiting for a bargain striker to come along every transfer window

    This! Exactly This!

Whats worse, no striker, or Carlton Cole. I think its obvious. Fair play to Lambias, i know we all knew what he would say but he is right that it isnt in the best interest of the club to sign a sub par striker for us. We rely on our solid defence and packed midfield, and Ba and Best to tap in 10+ each and we should be fine. Then get a good striker lined up for January and itll provide a nice boost for the final months of our campaign.

Stay Strong Toon Brethren. All is nowhere near as bad as some make it out.

It's a worry, according to Lee Ryder from the Chronicle as he understands it, its going to be a redesign with space for advertisements either side, cue tacky Sports Direct sticker.

One thing thats pissing me off. is the club held out for 35 million for Andy Carroll.. a player who played half a season in the premier league.. this more than anything will highlight the financial climate in football at this current time... they are aware its costing 35 million for a good player.. but when it comes to paying 15 million for another good player apparently it is too much... and the club are being held to ransom... we wont pay over 10 million... excuse me but what the ****? they have a contradictory stance.. they pay 15 million they still have a 20 million profit in that position... it comes down to greed typical rich men wanting more for less.

I made this point a few months back, the club want to squeeze every last penny out of buying clubs but refuse to pay the going rate for replacements.
