Moderately entertaining first half, Charlton were the better team and created the best chances but Coventry have had a few chances as well. Taylor's penalty was clear cut and he put it away well. Charlton should see this game out now, might even keep a clean sheet. Crowd not too bad for a grim autumn afternoon. Home support maybe 500 down on the last home game. Good atmosphere mostly from the north stand. Quite a few Coventry fans in, but they are not very noisy. 1-0 HT
Deserved lead, Grant and Lyle should have both scored from open play. Our midfield has been dominant and the whole team is working very hard. Steer has had a day off so far. No need for any changes so far.
Grant has been awful. No end product or goal threat whatsoever. Attendance is around 7,500. Expect it to be given as 11,000 ...
Got that right FHB. Two goals in fact, both for the Sky Blues. After tuesday night, we have hit a bad patch here. Don't know the details but Steer was getting pelters elsewhere.
The Goals Against column is starting to tell its own story. Another season of mediocrity guaranteed I’m afraid
Oh dear. A classic mugging. 1-0 Up and we were all over them like a cheap suit until they equalised. So many good chances went begging for us. And no goal from open play at home against Coventry City. An absolute shocker. Credit to the away fans too - they supported their team loudly for the whole second half, when for a long time it looked as though they would take nothing from the game.
What happened to our midfield second half? As soon as they tired our dodgy defence was exposed. Apart from pick the ball out of the net twice Steer had nothing to do. Yet Ward should have won the game for us just before their winner. Our defence looked okay first half because the midfield shielded them, but Dijksteel is not a full back and Sarr is..........Sarr. What do we do now, wait for Page to recover?
Aribo in particular went missing in the second half. What is so galling is that Coventry were poor. Well organised but really offering very little. They managed to open us up twice with 10 mins to go, and I think most opposing managers know that we are an accident waiting to happen at the back. Djiksteel is NOT a full back ! The boasts of certain posters on ITTV about our squad are now looking predictably hollow. Depressing !
Very good for this level. If only we had another 10 like him. How on earth did Jed “Bum” Steer start again todayl ?
Bowyer said after the game that Lewis Page is out for six weeks. As some of us predicted in the summer, the likes of Page don’t get short term injuries, and now the abject lack of cover at full back will bite us on the arse. “Marshall and Djiksteel can play full back” said the Apologists
His much-vaunted distribution twice failed to get out of the penalty area, meaning Pearce had to encroach to receive the ball, and the goal-kick had to be retaken.
I think on reflection today demonstrated what most of us predicted. The squad simply isn’t good enough, and a couple of injuries quickly leads to results worsening. But for Solly’s 96th min equaliser at Luton, we would have lost 3 in a week - and none of them against fancied aides. At this level of football we lost 4 very good footballers in the summer - Amos, da Silva, Konsa and Kashi. We haven’t replaced them with the same quality, if at all. Don’t forget we limped home in 6th with a better squad than this one last summer. You could see last season that Djiksteel wasn’t a right back, so it’s inexcusable that we are persisting with him. And I’m afraid that Jed Steer isn’t in the same class as a keeper compared to Ben Amos. A 5th season of Duchatelet failure looks highly likely IMO.
So bowyer is telling the players to take a look at themselves after today's game. So bowyer the players are taking it upon themselves to play the ball out from the back, to make 12 passes sometimes more and were still not f@cking out our own half. The players are taking it upon themselves to get everyone back for corners and set pieces . Oh look a couple of times we get the ball out from a corner and guess who it goes to a f@cking Coventry player. Mr Bowyer Taylor is taking it upon himself to play all over the f@ckig pitch. Taylor's that f@cking good when he crosses the ball I'm half expecting him to get on the end of it. Every time we go forward we look like scoring , let's stop f@cking about with the ball about at the back and start going for teams more than we do. Might sound stupid but do we need to start both fosu and aribo, both f@cking good players if we was to hold one of them back to half time though we've got something special coming on in the 2nd half. Unhappy from Bromley
