This is a sample post from the Facebook group "Glory, Glory Tottehnam Hotspur": "Appalling tonight, we can all run around and look good at doing it.. But we were shocking, poch tactically inept, tactically too slow, no movement, no nothing! There are 7 players that are not good enough!! That's not his fault.. But we have gone backwards!" I hardly post on there, and this is why. I shouldn't even look at it really because there's constructive criticism and there's "it's all ****" type comments. The "it's all ****" type comments really annoy me, and that's more of what I see on FB. I'm also thinking there's almost no point in trying to debate with these people either. I suspect they also have either a very short memory or will never be satisfied either - when we get better they'll just set the bar higher. You get a much better level of debate on here!!!
It’s Facebook, mate, what do you expect? Lol. All of those Tottenham social media accounts are full of spotty, virgin, teenagers who want everyone sold after one or two defeats. They play FIFA too much and think that ****’s reality when you’re winning 7-0 every game.
The Inter game is the one that may be our downfall this season. I can see both us and Inter ending with 9 pts and it coming down to GD in our head to head with them. "We've lost our pressing game of a few seasons ago" In fairness we have not the best MF squad exponents of it (Wanyama and Lamela) consistently available for some time now. However I note that Kane/Alli/Eriksen have appeared to be lethargic to date on this (again is this the long WC season taking its toll) .
Another point worth making is about the way we played in the second half. If we can bring that to the PL there are few teams that could live with us and that's without Dele, Eriksen, Dembele and Vertonghen. People writing off Winks will be eating their words if he continues like he ended up last night. We could benefit from the experience Wanjama and Winks received in that game as well. The energy we showed was way above most of our season so far. Let's hope that will really kick start our season.
After our second goal, I found myself saying,”What we need to do now is to bring on Bale!” Last night’s game reminded me so much of that time when GB burst on to the European stage! And wasn’t Hugo committing howlers like last night’s well before his injury? Some managers would have dropped him long since, without losing his loyalty or commitment. Such a shame to see him in such a place mentally, but he needs a rest away from the limelight, for his own sake. I think Poch has worked like that with others.
If you concede a minute and a half into the game at home in a vital match, you’re gonna be chasing the game after that. Chasing a game means taking chances and leaving spaces that you hadn’t otherwise intended to do. You can’t leave that kind of space to players like Messi, he’ll destroy you. If we hadn’t conceded that idiotic early goal it could have been a different result.
Glenn Hoddle's been talking bollocks again. He's questioned the point of Tottenham competing in the CL, rather than concentrating on trying to win the Carabao or FA Cups. I loved the bloke as a player, but as far as running a club is concerned, he makes less sense than Gazza. Yes Glenn, we'd all love a trophy but winning the FA Cup earns you £5m and the Carabao cup gets you £3m. Getting out of the group stages of the CL will probably earn us £70m. We owe £400m for the stadium. Six consecutive qualifications probably pays off the debt, as opposed to winning both domestic cups for the next 25 years. Arsenal's recent shopping and withdrawing a contract offer to Ramsey shows what happens when you drop out of the CL. Plus, the last time we won a cup, our two best players ****ed off to play CL football. Sometimes, I really wish he'd just keep to being 'ex-Chelsea boss, Glenn Hoddle' because with friends like that...
I think we were lucky to only lose 4-2. People say about Lucas having the chance to make it 3-3 but seem to be forgetting Messi hitting the post twice. Compared to last year we have gone backwards or at the very least stood still while everyone else has improved. Maybe it’s just me but I’m finding it hard to feel positive about this season, I think we will struggle to make top 4 and won’t make the knockout stages of the Chanpions League.
These people speak with the luxury of a life free of the current financial realities of THFC. On in laymans' words : Talk is cheap. When you have to pay for what you say, you don't talk so much. *** *** Disclaimer : unless you are a gobshite (see under "Sacked England managers" ) .
Cheer up a bit mate, mate. We're 4th in the PL having played 5 away games and 2 at a neutral ground. If Inter lose to Barcelona twice and we beat PSV twice, it comes down to the Wembley game against Inter. So, there's all to play for, even if we lose in the Camp Nou. I don't think anyone's forgetting that they ripped us apart at times but, a quality side will do that when you go at them like we had to in the second half. Despite going 2-0 down, we showed real fight and almost got a point out of what looked an impossible situation at half time. That's got to be a good thing, no?. At least we went down swinging and it shows that without that early **** up, we would have been in with a real shout against the Champions of Spain. It's a bit early to write the season off?
I can understand your frustrations, and similar things concern me. But Brian makes some good points. Considering everything that we have going against us, we’re not doing too bad. Let’s see how we look after gameweek 12 in the PL (10th Nov I think), when we’ll have played 7 of 12 away. If we can continue to grind out results whilst not being at our best, it bodes well when many of the home fixtures come about later in the season. We were really unlucky with the way the CL fixtures panned out, too. Getting inter away in our first game, when the San Siro hadn’t seen CL football for 7 years, was like the defeat was written in the stars. To then get Barca straight after... 2 nasty fixtures. Inter at home, and Barca away may have seen us on 3 points right now, and things would look very different, and much more positive. What I really hope is that we can keep going until January and then correct the mistakes of the summer transfer window by signing some players early in the month. Maybe Grealish will join us now that Bruce has been sacked (Grealish was at the game last night too), and perhaps there’ll be another much needed addition/fresh face in the squad. January is a big time for us IMO. Failure to add anyone and I’ll probably share your sentiment, as it’s now become vital we strengthen. Also, I can’t imagine what the fan base will be like if we stand still. I think we’ll end up seeing “Levy out” planes flying over the stadium at home matches. However, we can’t change any of that right now, so what we need is our best 11 based on fitness and form to grind out the results. What Poch can do, is stick to what is working in terms of formation, try to make subs at the right times if necessary, and select players who deserve to play. - some of that needs some work. It’s a shame that so much rides on Poch, but he’s definitely got it in him to get us over the line.
This is what I don't get with the lunatic fringe of our support, all they can think of is which players should be sold NOWNOWNOW because they're not good enough - or in an extreme case, there were people screaming on Twitter last season how we should terminate Aurier's contract after his red card against West Scam - because middle ground doesn't appear to exist with modern football fans as it's either winning or the club may as well close its doors, demolish the stadium and salt the earth so a pitch will never grow there ever again Why do I get the feeling these are the exact sort of people where, if you ever meet them in a FIFA lobby, they're guaranteed to rage quit in the 89th minute when getting tonked 4-0? And since I'm on that subject, when will EA fix it so if a player rage quits a match in the last minute when they're getting tonked, it still counts as a win in your analytics instead of a draw? It's been a constant source of irritation for at least a decade now.
I'm not convinced Grealish is the solution. Isn't he similar to the likes of Eriksen, Lamela, Dele and Son?
