We got what we deserved...absolutely nothing. We were very poor and Napoli completely dominated the second half. Salah is just a shadow of himself and deserved to be dropped. He couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo at the moment. Never mind his record of last season. Let’s not beat about the bush: He is currently the poorest striker in the premiership. It is time to give Sturridge a run in the team.

City is now a must win. A defeat or draw will mean 4 consecutive matches without a win and the early optimism disappearing.

Well... technically that's Sam Vokes.

This is cloud cuckoo land. There is only a very slight chance we’ll finish ahead of PSG. Our realistic aim will be to finish second above Napoli. So we have to wish that PSG pulverise the other two.

it's not.

we beat psg so if we win the next two no matter what they do we will be ahead of them in group on results.

our original.aim always was as 3rd seeds to get ahead of the 2nd seeds.
that fine.

it still is.

if we are on 9 points along side psg going into match 5.. that's be best we can do now.

if we lose to psg then at best... at best we can hope.to have Napoli needing to win at Anfield to take 2nd.

our best scenario is 9 points from 4 games now.

if psg and Napoli draw their two games with will.pit Napoli on 7 and pay on 6. that's much mate time.

we would have to go to psg to secure a draw... which is not good.

in all likelihood then the last game will be lfc need to win to secure a spot.

we turned an easy remainder of group into a tough drawn out affair by.simply.not being able to pass the ball to each other.

The reality of the situation is that we cannot afford to lose against PSG no matter what. And if do we have to better their defeat at Anfield by at least scoring. A defeat by more than 1 goal puts us in a very precarious position.

We desperately need to get our early season form

We have used up our chances now yeah.

TBH this weeks been very poor for english clubs.

All our opponents... It would be interesting to note if they played midweek last week. English clubs played League cup (even with changed teams)

LFC used up milner totally v cheslea and he looked pure dirt v napoli.... must question priorities there. I have said quite a few times he is 33 and last season he was used sparingly.

City only one due to david silva looking brilliantly fit and flying last 5 minutes and robbing his opponent and slotting in box form nothing.
Spurs lost
We lost
Utd drew poorly as well.

My opinion on group football is DO..NOT..LOSE... just about everything can be recovered agasint the hsitter team in the group if you don't give your rivals hope.

We got a great start.
We ****ed that up by losing to napoli.

Now the next 2 games are crucial. Red star will try to defend deep. We simply must win.

Either Klopp got his tactics wrong or they weren’t executed properly. Perhaps a bit of both. Whatever it was, it doesn’t happen too often these days so I’m sure he’ll put it behind them and move on. Win 2 more home games and away to Red Star and we’ll qualify with 12 points. CL has always been about winning your home games.

hmmmm.... I honestly don't know.

I do know the front 3 were miles up the pitch and "half pressing" which means it was piss easy for napoli to keep it most of the time. The rest were all deep so we were disjointed.

We were also really really narrow as per and just about every side has not figured that if you get wide you will have joy getting up the park against us.

that team shape could be down to anything.. tired legs, defence line sitting too deep (virgil?) who knows.

What you just said above is just beat red star twice and then beat napoli at home.

Lets be clear, while napoli didn't look amazing they are still a very good side with a top manager.

we MUSt be ahead on points going into last game so they have to come and win.

My fear is something like:

LFC win 2 = 9 points
Napoli win one lose 1 = 7points
PSG win 1 lose 1 = 6 points.

this would mean we could go to PSG and PSG MUST win. that makes it a hard game for us again. but it'd be a chance to eliminate them i suppose.

If we drew v PSG
Napoli 10
LFC 10
PSG 7

I need to check that the rule would be results between sides here... would psg be out in this case?
if we lost to PSG

Napoli 10
PSG 9
LFC 9

Meaning we'd have to win last game.

I just hope psg absoltuely smash napoli.

While we are playing these two Red Star games, PSG and Napoli will be fighting for points against each other.
Poor performance from us last night, but we will be fine. First or second in the group doesn't really matter. Still fancy us for 1st.

I hope so.

theres many permutations. The worse one is both rivals get 3 points.

Ideally for me if both have bore draws thats be ace.

played 4 games.
LFC 9
Napoli 6
PSG 5

This would be no the best permutation (assuming we win both) we coudl even afford to lose one and win one and be through or even 2 draws

My worst
LFC9 again doomsday if not)
Napoli 7
PSG 6

This would mean PSG would have to go all out to smash us at thier place and if that happens we would drop to 3rd in group and have to beat napoli

But to put some perspective on it.. We are still just ahead of PSG. If we come out of the Red star games with 4 points we would still have 2 games to get a win in to make it.

same, we could end up first in group and have harder fixtures in qualifying round if we went through from teams expected to win their group only coming 2nd etc.

qualifying is the most important.

what baffles me is the can't play this team rule etc, but it's a money making scheme now days i guess and the bigger teams it is made easier for them to qualify for them to get the glamour ties for tv.

I was thinking PSG was our last game but you are right, its the Napoli game. Anyway, we will be in better shape once the Red Star games
are done

We did not perform well yesterday, I think all the players had the game against city in their minds, so they failed to put their best.

hopefully by then uefa will have the balls and start punishing italian teams like they seem very eager to do with english ones :bandit:

Well, I've slept on it and I'm no happier.
That was the only time I can think of under Klopp where we looked like we were playing for a draw.
We're better than that.
It's a stupid tactic unless your team is built to play that way, and we're not.
I hope the lesson is learned.

i thought that, but then why play keita and not hendo to start with? rest?

at least when he gets it wrong he takes the blame for it unlike others :bandit:
