Coz im sick of every other thread being about how **** bates is i was wondering who you guys reckon we were looking to get on deadline day. Apparently at 6pm we had puncheon and all he had to do was sign, he ended up going to QPR to play prem football. Apparently we had an internation prem defender ready to sign at 8pm but he didnt come because the other club didnt sign the defender they wanted. And apparantly we had another international prem player that was almost ready to sign as well before the other club backed out. Just wondered what the thoughts are on puncheon, whether he would've been good enough/necessary. And who da reckon the other players were, i honestly have no idea
There were no others i suspect. Even if there were, dont worry much about the international thing, obrien and bruce are and theyre hopeless
Bull Crap.... sorry same old **** that has recently been pushed out by the club or leaked out by the club...... I dont believe we looked at anyone....
Spanish, a little less cynicism I think. If the club say they were close to three signings, then they probably were. Papa Smurf & SG aren't stupid. They know the fans are getting restless, even more so now given what happened with Max. So there would be little point in putting out lies. Have a bit more faith
The 4 players which were leaked! Were Jason Puncheon of southampton, Danny Collins of stoke city, Gael Kakuta of chelski, Eric Lichaj of villa Kakuta would have been an immense loan signing. The kid is dynamite and direct
That would be exact point in putting out lies, to appease the handful of fans that can't or won't see through them. They could say messi was on his way but Barca changed their mind. Who can contradict them? The only signings that count are the ones we make not make up stories about. To date they have been virtually none
I think they may have been looking but no way would they have gone for anyone. Why should they? Say they look, if they do offer owt, offer meagre wages/money etc, the deal doesnât happen but hey ho, we missed out on getting someone. Its not ****ing rocket science is it really.
I thought Lichaj fell thru because Villa failed to get someone else and he wanted to try get in the first team - that was the rumour going round the last week, that we were getting him because Villa were onto someone else.
Marko, apparently he's out for 3 to 4 months. So whether we were in for him or not, it fell through due to his injury situation. Having said that, he played last week. So maybe he was actually back in favour. Either way, no one will be looking at him now until he's back from injury & at least starting or playing a game or two for Villa. So not until mid Jan at the earliest.
Once again I'll point out that, at the very least with Puncheon, the club can't have lied, as Puncheon would be perfectly capable of coming out and denying it if they had. I do believe the club but my frustration is that we didn't go for these sooner, unless the Gradel money was needed, in which case we are simply **** at deadline day.
Still the way i see it is, weve had since july to sort this problem out! And Grayson is still naive that our current squad can still challenge without Gradel! I smell utter bullshit! Midtable all the way! Too good to go down, too bad to go up! and yes ive heard that saying too many times before!
Yeah yeah yeah boring boring boring just like we were going to sign 4 premiership players and not like we had to wait till the last day of the season was it? Personally I can't understand why teams haven't got everything in place ready for the kick off to a new season. The final day scramble is beyond me. Many of us called it before, Gradel will leave on the last day and a bucket of excuses why we couldn't get xyz. Going back to the op - He could have come and chatted but Bates wouldn't have met his wages, end of.
I agree with you in that I don't understand why we didn't go for these players sooner (well, Puncheon at least, others will have relied on the 25 man squads), but as I said before if the club were lying it would be easy for them to be exposed, also people in and out of the club are saying Gradel was practically begging to leave, and he apparently recieved a "very chunky" wage increase in France. I'm perfectly OK with people being annoyed that Gradel has gone but there is no need for silly conspiracy theories.
As I've said a few times, it's indubitable that he wanted to leave towards the end, but you've got to examine why he wanted to leave and whether the whole sorry affair could have been avoided. Intelligent speculation is not conspiracy theory, it's the bedrock of discussion among football fans.
Yeah, he's had money to spend all summer, hasn't he? How stupid of him to leave it to the last day like this. And it's not like his hands are tied with a stupidly low wage cap either, is it? And the ambition coming out of the club is just magnetically attracting players, huh? [nsfw]I think you're a bit stupid.[/nsfw]
