    Well if I was HR

It would be obvious you'd be the one telling the porkies so I'd have to say the other bloke is telling the truth

I do hope your use of the words 'porkies' is not a racial slur <whistle> See straight away HR would tell you was lying as you just can't help yourself!

    But they're spineless ****ers?

I was a manager at Royal Mail for 15 years. Never had to sack anyone for verbals, and believe me, the slagging between postmen was frequently epic.

Sounds like either your guvnors are a shower of twats, your mate was a **** worker and they wanted him out, or there's something else you don't know.

Some Sikhs have set up a food stall in Soton with free food for anyone who wants it:

I was going past on the bus so didn't get the grill etc. but looked as if there was enough for tens if not hundreds of people.

Isn't it great to live in a multicultural society <applause>

I like the way it's right outside Coral's, so if you've done your absolute bollocks on the nags, you can still take something home for tea.

    I am in a tricky situation .

Go sick before 19/12/18 and they will sack me because of my sick record .

In my company , up until a couple of years ago , If my manager gave me a FFW , I could appeal to the level 2 . If he rejected my appeal , I could go to the level 3 , then level 4 .

HR Moved the goal posts . In my Company line 1 & 2 managers have no legal powers , HR tell them what to do . Level 3&4 however , then you are into the realms of them thinking " Hang on , If this employee has got to my level and has union backing , we will have t look into this VERY thoroughly ".

NOW if my level 2 rejects my appeal , I have to take out a grievance case against him . Totally different ball game .

    My point being .

Don't know about you ..but my Company's HR department , following a " Change " are actively looking to sack people .

If some of the sacked employees are not union members they are laughing , or if the employee is prepared to fight it , that is a chance they are prepared to take .

As a mate said to me , the clue is in the name . Used to be PERSONNELL , it's now HUMAN RESOURCE …..

If you go sick make sure you go to the GP and get a letter even if it's under 3 days off.

If your employer fires you ignoring the advice from a medical professional then you will have a strong wrongful dismissal case.
    Alternatively don't go sick .

Depends what you deem as a line manager. Line managers do not have the sufficient level generally to fire you, but they do have a higher grade which technically over-rides the former in some situations ie especially if they are deputising for the grade above them.

HR will always guide all managers on next steps, or any decent HR department will, as this avoids losing cases at tribunals. Many employers or managers should i say, do not understand employment law, so to leave them to their own devices because of grade, then they are setting themselves up for wrongful dismissal or administrative errors that will also lose you a tribunal.

I'm guessing you have had 3 occasions or more of absence in 6 or 12 month rolling period?

Tbh if the employer has an attendance procedure that is agreed with the Unions, then it doesn’t really matter if the absences are genuine. It’s the frequency and total numbers of absences that would normally trigger each stage of the procedure. The exception would be if he had a registered disability.

So yeah, don’t go sick. I was given that advice on my first week on the post. Obviously I still did go sick, but not often; and I kept a diary so I knew how close I was to triggering the procedure

I have a very very poor sick record .

However the sick reasons are under control ( Since the Initial Final warning ) .

    Long story short .

    Felt ****e .

Went to work because I was worried about my sick record . Struggled at work , people told me to go home , in the end a senior manager told me to go home , asked if I was OK to drive I said I was .

Passed out behind the wheel , crashed the car hit a tree and crossed 2 lanes of traffic .

Spent a week in isolation at the SGH because I had SEVERE INFLUENZA ( I had paid for my own flu jab ) Whilst I was off sick , my Father passed away .

Came back to work and got a Final Formal warning which the level 2 upheld .

Meant to add , when I was given my IFW , I said what happens if I am walking down the road and a brick falls off a lorry and huts me ? Manager said , that can be treated as a " Stand Alone incident " .

So at my appeal I said " I pay for my own flu jab , pass out and crash , spend a week in isolation because of the severity of my influenza " . If that's not stand alone what is ? HR's response " You were not at work " end of .

and sometimes those triggers are people returning to work too soon. For example they go sick on day one, return on day two, then because they returned to soon, go sick on day three - that instantly triggers two of the three occasion strikes.
