I saw it from miles away - he did basically what Kenedey did for Newcastle and retaliated by kicking someone - red card all day for me (although the first foul on him went completely unpunished I hasten to add).

Not exactly sure what it is but these officials at Sunderland seem to want the limelight. "Big ground, Big crowd, I'll show 'em" type attitude - not the first time it's happened either

Last night just proved why we had no Referees at the last world cup.
Not only are they crap in the Premiership they are in our league as well, why don't they just ref the game as the unseen official and not want to be 'look at me' im in charge.

We can't keep blaming the referees week in week out.

We have to start playing smarter!

The ref and linesman were shocking last night though.. We can't just sit back and say nothing when we witness a fiasco such as last night..

How many times have we heard that this season mate?

If we can't work out how to avoid those situations we're going still be hearing it in April.

I just had the feeling from the start last night that these officials were determined to stick it up us.. maybe first time on a stage this big and were determined to make a name for themselves..

How can you avoid a linesman allowing play to continue when the ball is over the line though burly? The red card I have no complaints with - not much contact with the diving rolling twat but he did kick out at him so no issue with that. The elbow on Flanaghan from their 17 with no punishment and then another late challenge which brought a yellow card - how do you avoid that?

The red was avoidable - the other things I just can't see how we avoid those situations - if a ref allows a team to get away with a lot, they push the boundaries - our first foul was a yellow card - then they proceeded to do exactly the same thing 3 or 4 times with no yellow cards. Maja completely out-foxed their number 5 on the wing and had nothing but grass in front of him - he dragged him down - not a word from the ref!

I'd love to be able to avoid them, but the only way you can avoid things like that is for the officials to step up and referee the same game for both sides - happened at almost every home game this season - little ref on big stage

I was going to come back at you Burly but others have said it for me.
I'm not after any favours from the officials but ask they do the job evenly for BOTH teams which isn't happening and blatantly didn't last night.
everyone makes mistakes but to consistently keep making them makes these results a bitter pill to swallow.
I'm sure Ross will keep them at it despite these incidents but the players must think the same as most of us do.

Wasn't having a go mate - sorry if it seemed that way!

My take on it is that these refs want to be refereeing at a higher level - we all have ambition. But I think they're coming to SAFC thinking - "I'm going to show the FA I'm not intimidated by a big crowd and big club atmosphere" and going as far as they can to show that by simply refereeing 2 different games - one for us and one for the opposition

Just reading the Echo player ratings and they said Flanagan was excellent at CB and formed a promising partnership with Baldwin.

If we're going to be forced into four at the back while Loovens recovers I think these two lads will do pretty well, I'm a big fan of Baldwin and I remember Flanagan looked good in preseason and I guess is now getting some match sharpness back.

Yeah I think they were excellent - looked much more assured than Loovens tbh! But I think we might have to revert Flanaghan to full back this weekend with Matthews one side and him the other and Ozturk and Baldwin in the middle

    We played Posh, not Pompey....

I thought McGeouch looked good. It's the first time I've seen him and he looked good at breaking the play up and spreading the ball about. He got off to a slow start and looked a bit shaky for the first 15 minutes, but after that he grew into the game and looked to be one of our better players, imo. We look desperate for somebody to link the play up between the midfield and attack.

<laugh> dickhead (me)!!! I meant Posh! I though he looked so tentative on the ball - gave it away more than any midfielder I've seen! Did the breaking up bit OK but, after he broke it up, he seemed to have to break it up again as he'd given it away! Goes to show how 2 different people can see things so differently

I thought Power had a quiet game and didn't impact on it the way I've seen him built up on here. Admittedly though, I know it's only one game. I think McGeough will turn out to be one of our better players as the season goes on.

I'm not sure if you heard from where you were, but the Posh fans were absolute dickheads. Singing Adam Johnson he's one of our own and a few other needless chants.

    Evans:
"We should have won that game," said Evans.

"We were in complete control of the second-half and when we equalised against 10 men I am sure even every Sunderland fan thought we would go on to win the game.

"But we’ve committed defensive suicide near the touchline to concede a second goal and it’s taken a sublime run, touch and finish from Ivan to get us the point.

"I’m disappointed though. They bossed the first-half and we were much better in the second-half.

"I reckon Jack Ross will be the happier manager as we played them off the park in the second half.

"We changed the way we have been playing away from home because we felt Siriki Dembele would hurt them from a position just behind the front two but he didn’t perform and as a result I sacrificed him and a very unlucky Callum Cooke at half-time.

"Their goalkeeper showed how valuable he is by making some exceptional saves.

"Sunderland is a wonderful football club with fans who are worth two goals a game with the support they give and the pressure they put on the referee. They will obviously be strong promotion contenders this season.

    ----------

Going to pick the bones of that:

Think Posh (@CBD saffy got it right this time!!) looked poor - worst I've seen this season IMO

Second half they were a little better than us for about 10 minutes but "played them off the park"? Really? - we then regained control and looked by far the better side again - until Oviedo did what he did and the rest is history.

At no point did I think they would go on to win!

We were streets ahead in the first half - they were probably a little better in the second! In no small part due to us having 10 men and them having 12

Jack Ross happier? We held the lead twice and you brought it back twice - think he'll be pretty unhappy really

Our Goalkeeper was good but the saves he made were all very comfortable and not really much of a test

Yeah heard them - was in the North stand mate! It's almost every week now you hear the opposition sing about Adam Johnson! Become a little like white noise to be honest

I thought Evans was a ****er, last night.

I never felt as though they'd score when we had 11 men on the pitch. We should have had that game wrapped up by HT, and led twice so not sure why he think's we'd be the happier of the two teams.

I think he'll play James at LB and Matthews RB assuming they don't break by then.

Fingers crossed that Baldwin and Flanagan are going to be a solid pairing for years to come, last decent ones we had were Kone and Kaboul and that was over before it started.
