They’re worried that the gay guy will run off and get a lawyer and drag the whole thing into court. I agree, it all sounds like a storm in a teacup. Have these two got previous with each other?
When I worked at a book store in the mall in University I used to get hit on by gay guys all the time. I'm pretty sure it was all a practical joke though because I had a gay coworker that was a bit of a joker and they would only come by and hit on me whenever he was working and he'd be sure to be nearby having a laugh at the time. So I'm pretty sure he was telling all his gay friends to do it as a laugh. For a while I got a bit of a complex... Why the hell did gay guys keep hitting on me at work?
I worked with a big black pre op tranny in a casino in 2012, some of my mates new him from Luton as Daniel and he was living as a woman. Very quiet nice person , usually spent breaks on his own drawing cartoons , I got on with him. He got changed in the female locker room with the girls and after a few had clocked that he/she had the package still, they felt uncomfortable. A couple of the girls brought it up with management and were told not to say anything or they may be investigated and possibly dismissed. I actually felt sorry for them because he clearly wouldn't be comfortable putting on a dress as company uniform and wig with the blokes in the men's changing room. Big companies need a quota and this 6 ft tall black tranny was like gold dust to HR and management. Your mate would have probably been better off denying that he called him a ****.
It was nowt off nowt mate... Ffs we work in a giant refrigerator.. Its heavy as ****.. The so called **** had the option to drop the claim, he declined. Now both are ****ed
They were testing the water, any positive signs from you and you would be taking a length . Don't put yourself down I'm sure you are a real babe.
I got investigated and given a written warning for joking with Italian co-workers on Facebook. Don't use it anymore.
Sounds like a ****ty thing to do, and cost the guy his living too. If he was constantly calling him a **** and taunting him, I could understand. But a one off jibe in the heat of an argument....
No mate, it wasn't a one off. Nor was it the other way. How do you think we pass the time? You need to understand our environment, we are not talking office here.
I've got a Polish mate, he's ****ing class, always helps me out.. Yet its still fat Polish ****, and English pig. I don't get the **** difference. The sensitive little ****.
Now we can all talk about this scenario rationally because it was a **** . Imagine if the situation had been someone calling a guy a fat **** and he responded by calling him a (insert ethnic minority) here? The responses would have been completely different. Only some humans can describe each other. Even this will get jumped on with accusations of racism .
I've narrowed it down to, only a **** gets offended. We call each other this constantly. So ****. Now this one **** comes along and gets offended. Certainly the wrong working environment for him. Weedy **** only works 24hours and causes a ****storm
Historically persecuted groups get more protection. There is a reason for that. Sure it was all banter and fat **** isn't better than ****... But historically there is a perceived threat of violence behind bashing gays. In the not too distant past gays would regularly get the crap beaten out of them for being gay. I don't think many fat people have been beat up just for being fat. Probably a bit extreme getting fired without so much as a warning but there is a difference and they boss probably worried he'd get sued too if he didn't take action.
Does your mate have a contract of employment? If so he should check it as they can't just fire him unless he did something borderline criminal.
What did you say when you were pulled in, @Commachio - hear no evil, see no evil? If you've said that they were both giving as good as they got then I fail to see how they can only give one of them the punishment. I assume work will become unbearable now for the gay guy.
If he's from a recruitment agency then they can cancel the contract without notice. If he is employed by your company then i suggest he visits Acas for guidance.
Thing is mate, everyone knows they are asking the wrong person. Even my shift manager I've known from years gone by. It could have been anyone else there they would have gotten a better response. I just shrugged my shoulders and went pah, nowt of nowt.
