My favourite season is the Suarez season. Favourite era was that Roy Evans time. Best team watched is Rafa's. I'm hoping Klopp betters all three, he's well and truly on the right tracks! (At 37, I can't really recall before Evans. I didn't watch a lot of footy when I was in single digits)
this is a LFC board so the knowledge of LFC players from back then is obviously higher than your average punter who imo tend to think of him cutting in from the wings.
seem to remember he scored a similar goal the same season - may have been Bolton but my memory these days is pretty flaky.
What i remember most was that he was ****ing woeful at shooting. The odd times he got it right great bug the guy was just hilarious he was that bad. The fun thing is evans bought berger and coincidentally thats when mcmanaman decided to go and moores decided to sell up cos 3.5mil for a player was too much..... only took the fool 9 years to sell then.. ****.
For every goal he scored, was at least 10 shots hit with all the ferocity his little twig legs could muster that would trickle into the keepers arms.
i think the best argument that can be made is the fact we played 2 wing backs and frankly if mcmanaman chose to stand wide it was cos he was free to do so if he chose. we must look really at defensive shape for his starting position for lfc and that was not wide but as third midfielder
There is no doubt in my mind that he was more effective playing in the wings . Very often he would have a free role, cutting inside and dribbling into the penalty box or shooting and scoring from a good position. But if we were forced to give him a title role then it would be “winger”.
Different era of physicality. I used to be similar to maca, but I could hit a ball ruddy hard. Not now days where they have hardly any back lift and wholop. They have better training facilities diets etc. Used to have players have a half time cig
