Of course there isn't one, like most things in the art world it's all subjective. Me and my wife were discussing this the other day and there are hundreds of great intro's. In the end I went for She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult and she opted for Frankie Knuckles - Your Love.

What say you? No need to post the video unless you really want to as we already have the music thread for that. I thought it would be interesting to discuss great intro's and what makes for a great intro. And please don't post a list of songs as this tends to dilute the polyphony of a great piece of music.

OK I’ve pondered, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

This will change tomorrow, but Gaye’s first line, as the rhythm is established, is electrifying.

Cheers mate. Sorry I sounded a bit twattish in the op. I didn't intend to say you can only post one, I meant one at a time. I was down the pub yesterday and I mentioned it and a couple of mates started rattling loads of song titles off and it got a bit discombobulated.

Another good one ( unexpectedly ) is Rasputin by Boney M. Yes really.

Just listening to this on the Sonos and this is right up there as a classic intro monkey. I love it when the guitar rift comes in after the build up.

Tough one Nines, your choice by the Cult is a classic. Back in the day there were so many great rock songs with fantastic intros Zeppelin's 'Heartbreaker', Deep Purple's 'Smoke on the Water', AC/DC's 'Hells Bells', I could go on and on but one for me that is perhaps one of the most instantly recognisable intros and has stood such a long test of time is the Stones 'Brown Sugar', it's just a great hook into a great song...

In my opinion, there's no greater band than Pink Floyd. Their music is like listening to something from another dimension, so far ahead of their time. Each track is so expertly performed, the way they rise and fall, perfect transitions between different sections of the song. My only regret is never seeing them live when I had the chance, although I have seen Aussie Floyd a couple of times, and a few other smaller tribute bands.

Nick Mason is on tour at the moment, he was in Glasgow the other night. He said he couldn't get the others together so he went it alone. He had Gary Kemp on guitar who was surprisingly good.

The Stones almost have a monopoly on great intro's. Gimme Shelter and Start Me Up are two of my faves.

Lots of great Stones intros, and lots of Zep ones (In My Time of Dying and Ten Years Gone to add to Soopers ones).

But, inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack I’ve been listening to a lot of soul, glam and 70s bubble gum pop recently, and I give you.......

Sweet’s Fox on the Run.

Absolutely, I nearly put Won't Get Fooled Again as my favourite. There's a great video on Youtube with them paying live at The Albert Hall and Noel Gallagher on lead guitar. The live version of Baba O'Reilly at the same concert is amazing and Zak Starkey on drums is brilliant.

Unfortunately I've got to pop out for a few hours.
