For the same reason that we watched the sport through the mid-2000's when Ferrari were doing the same thing. Except I doubt you were complaining so much back then..... It's never good when team orders are so blatantly made, especially where one driver who deserved a win this year had it taken off him. But this is nothing new. The sport has always been like this. It doesn't make it any better, but let's not get all emotional over it like it's something really really untoward. As for young drivers not getting career progression, Max, Gasly, Norris, Leclerc etc shows how wrong your statement is.
I do love a game of spot the irony. ^ It's never great when a driver has to give up a potential win to team orders, but there's a clear and obvious reason for it. If Bottas was in with a shout of the title, it'd be a different story. Yeah, it's not great, but it is what it is.
I'm massively surprised by the reaction to a logical play by Mercedes. If you are seriously saying you wouldn't have made the same call had you been Toto, there's something genuinely wrong with you. What has made this even remotely worthy of attention, is the poor attitude displayed by Bottyboy, who takes absolutely no pleasure in his team being successful. What a spoilt brat. He does it again and again. He is in the best car, despite not being in the top 5 drivers on the grid, and should not only thank his lucky stars that he's not out of a seat like some of the others, but that the seat he is in is the best in F1. I understand a will to win and I can see why he might have some frustration, but he should also understand the importance his job plays in making the team successful. If he was at all close to winning the world championship, he can moan, but when He's leading a procession by a second or two, and not looking like winning by miles, why does it matter? He can **** off and see how many wins he would have to give up in a Torro Rosso if he wants! Either win some races and force yourself into position as number 1 or a challenger, or help your team-mate you absolute gimp. I'm shocked people are comparing this to Rubens and Schuey, because Rubens dominated that weekend if I remember rightly.
Rubens wasn’t one of the top five drivers on the grid either, in fairness (and the competition for that accolade was a lot less back then too).
Ruben's never dominated Schumacher ever unless Schumacher had car problems. Hamilton only 21 race wins behind now, should have that by the end of the 2020 season latest.
Ferrari are the worst exponents of team orders imho . That was my point . I get team orders , but I don’t like them . I rate Bittas , but I agree he’s nowhere near a match for Hamilton , so if he does not do better next year , I expect him to be replaced by Ocon before the season is over .
imo its fine to have team orders. the thing is don't pretend that the no 2 is anything but a no 2. every team has a no 1. then it's no shock that a team swaps them mid race if required. it's a fact that the US gp where basically wouldn't pull over for Schumacher and a debacle occured? causes a false rule of no team orders expect they continued irrespective. for.me.ferraris issue has been Raikkonen just isn't up to it really and is clear 4th and so isn't taking points off hamilton
I reckon the first opportunity Lewis gets later in the season, when the title is certain, if he is in first and Bottas is second, lewis will let Bottas pass. Lewis doesn't feel good about it so he will give a race win or two back. However, that's twice Bottas has given the lead to Lewis this season, if not 3 times. He had some bad luck too, earlier in the season. While Bottas may not be able to put a 1.36 lap into Singapore, to have given away 2-3 race wins (i need to check the third), I am unconvinced Ocon would do better Actually a compliant Number 2 who is capable of winning is not something Merc should throw away easily. Also, if you are a competitor, this would make you all the more determined, not break you.
doubt it. what'll happen is when title is over.lewis won't bother and bottas will be first on grid and walk the race. everyone will goo about him but all it will be is fastest car v nobody caring.
You can't deny he could have beaten Lewis twice if not 3 times this season already. Also, it you look back, last season Bottas was within 58 points of Lewis ( a similar margin to that between Lewis and Nico). Many believe Nico was fast (and good), perhaps because he could out qualify Lewis. If Bottas hadn't given way to orders he would have a similar margin of points difference to Lewis this season. I do think there is too much negativity about his performance, with the poor reliability taken into account, this season hasn't been terrible. I don't see Ocon being any better. Lewis is at his peak. Don't reckon he will ever get a knighthood tho, assuming he would accept.
