Not aimed specifically at you, no Jas, but in the written form as it appears that isn’t at aIl acceptable.

I’ve not said he is racist, that the comments can be construed as such.

If I was Chinese I would likely have taken offence and people should be acutely aware of how things can be perceived.

I recall years back people being alarmed/surprised at being told not to say black people have big lips or they deal drugs, or that Pakistan people smell. If he said that, would you deem it acceptable?

It is using unnecessary racist stereotypes.

Im not trying to fall out with anyone but why shouldn’t I point out my opinion on the matter, after all this is a forum.

No hassle from me anyhow- I won’t say ought about it from here on.

Someone else can do that for me and call a spade a spade.

"Call a spade a spade" has been in use for nearly half a millennium (and variations on it date at least as far back as A.D. 120). But it didn't start to take on the racist connotation it has now until the early 20th century. Evidently, in the 1920s, "spade" started being used as a slang term, and then a derogatory slur, for a black person. This racist shift in the phrase's meaning also lead to the equally offensive phrase "black as the ace of spades."

Careful what you write on the internet, it can be misinterpreted.
    There's a point here somewhere.

It was said tongue in cheek to make a point, and cheers for making it.

For crying out loud can we stop this interminable and deeply boring discussion now? For the record, I didn’t interpret St. K’s post as being racist, but I can see how it could be taken in that way. Let’s leave it there. Please.

Well said! Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to work on but I thought the overall performance was OK. The longer term concern is goals for and against which inevitably wins or loses you games of football.

I think Austin should just be brought off the bench if we are desperately chasing a late goal as his all round contribution, in a team that doesn’t play to his strengths, is minimal.
I also don’t think Austin and Ings should be on the pitch together, simply because the runs they make, around the penalty area are too similar.
Just one example yesterday had Pierre on the ball, central and in space, and both Ings and Austin made diagonal runs to get behind the middle centre back.
All that happened was that their markers went with them, closing the space for the through ball, which was easily cut out.
They need to be stretching the defence not helping to close it.
I also don’t like seeing Ings collecting the ball from the centre backs. They should be telling him to **** off up the front.

Nor did I (and incidentally the powers that be)..............There is a hell of a lot printed on a forum that can be taken in more than one way.

Can we please just get back to the original posters point please ..this is a match day thread!

Totally agree Danny and Charlie are to similar.......have to say we missed Shane yesterday, hopefully he will be back for the Chelsea game as we will need a willing runner as an outlet.

    Of course Chilco.

I won’t debate in a forum again and respond to direct Qs.

It just a great saving grace that this place is swelling with interesting stuff on a minute by minute basis.

I can bet my bottom dollar if you were engaged in **** it would carry on, such as the pun-a-thons that go unchecked and for days.

Anyhow point taken - can’t wait for the Everton game, think we may sneak through on penalties.

I think we played ok yesterday and not as bad as some make out.

And I think Hughes will be first or second to be sacked. In late October. Or early November.

And I had Sirloin steak last night with garlic and Birdseye chilli with homemade, air fried chips, mange touts with lemon.

Oh, and I think we will have a second referendum, or leave without a deal, or a bad deal, or an ok deal. Or a great deal.

    We good now :emoticon-0148-yes: <hug>

Anyone know what it was about?

I'm hoping this current phase of seeing offense everywhere even when obviously not meant passes soon and future generations can laugh at us....as we used to laugh at Victorianisms. Constant dissection of language is so tiresome....especially if the phrase used predates any possible racial connotation. There are lots of really racist people out there....time to stop alienating people who really aren't....because it kind of winds us up.

I love it. With peanut butter or under cheese on toast. Or sometime to hell with it. I have all three.

    Scrabble.

Les accused Hughes of cheating to use a X, Z, Q and K in one word.

Les said just cos you're a ****ing taff doesn’t mean you're not as thick as a leak.

Hughes called him a racist prick and the stereotypical PA assured everyone that it wasn’t meant that way.

On a serious note, I hope he is under pressure (Hughes) and needs to turn it around (2wins from next three) or he should go.

So haven’t seen any of the game, but reading in here sounds like we were pretty average but lost again? Becoming a recurring theme
