I was at the game and we really were not bad at all.
I have low expectations these days and most exceeded them for 75 minutes.
We controlled the game pretty well and made Wolves look very average. Just as I was thinking we can win this, our defence fell apart again and had midfielders coming in to the box unmarked to slot the ball in the back of the net.
If we don't score when on top we will loose every match because we got into a winning position and then threw it away.
Stunning save by McCathy from the header
    Austin? REALLYREALLY?
Hoedt? Why can't Yoshie get in this team?
PEH is a real fighter and trying to drag this team into winning

Anything can happen in football - I mean look at palace last season, they were much worse than we are now and managed to turn it around.

Hughes has to start learning though, Hoedt and 4-4-2 aren’t the answer.

    Ings
    Redmond Armstrong Ely
    Romeu Højbjerg
    Bertrand Yoshida Vestergaard Cedric
    AM

This team picks itself; and I’m amazed he hasn’t tried it.

Having looked at it from all angles, and given due consideration to all relevant factors, I am forced to concur, at least in part, with your analysis.

The problem, quite simply, is this; we’re ****. Not complete and utter ****; it would be easier to swallow if we were. Instead, we are just good enough, for just long enough, to give the impression that we might actually be alright. But we are not alright; we’re ****.

Pretty much.. We do some things competently, but we don't do anything well. And we do enough incompetently to more than counteract the stretches of competency.

I understand why it could be considered “racist” but I have to stick up for SK on this one , he obviously meant no harm by the “chopsuey” comment and to be honest it didn’t even register with me when I read his post apart from make me have a tiny chuckle to myself. I think to report him for it is a bit extreme though.

He has to introduce new faces to central midfield and central defence and ditch zonal marking or our problems will persist, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being but it is staring all of us in the face atm.

Just read Sparky's post match comments. Jesus Christ what is he on? More than hold our own? We had no real clear cut chances and if Wolves had played like they did against City they would have been out of sight much earlier than they actually were. We only "held our own" because Wolves were just as crap going forwards as us for most of the game.

The players that are definately worth the shirt atm are

    Macca
    Vestergaard
    Bertie
    Pierre
    Redders
    Danny

All the other positions are up for grabs.

Oh, and Wesley Hoedt is the most infuriating defender I have ever seen. He was solid for most of today. He did some good things: he made some good tackles, some good distribution here and there but then every 15 minutes without fail he has a complete and utter moment of madness. He dived in on one occasion and completely missed everything - the ball and the Wolves player, leaving us in trouble.

Macca's been solid and made some brilliant saves this season IMO.

Vestergaard has been better than Hoedt for sure and I think that apart from Maya he is our best option at CB.

Vestergaard was poor today. I actually think Hoedt played marginally better (would have been a lot better if he hadn't lost his head a few times).

Vestergaard should have been booked at least twice in the first half, mainly because he couldn’t get into the correct position to tackle quickly enough. He got better in the second half though, and he is definitely worth persevering with.

Bertrand was indirectly at fault for the first goal, as he was up the pitch and left Hoedt to deal with Traore. I liked having Targett in front of him last week, and Hughes should try that combination again.

Apart from that I agree. Drop Cedric, Hoedt, Lemina, Austin, and Elyounoussi, and replace them all with traffic cones. They couldn’t do much worse.

You’ve just described about 40% of the CBs we’ve had since 1970!
