No, just the goalposts.... yours on this occasion wakey. Not to worry, you demonstrated your judgement of goalkeepers with the lee camp comments, so we know how much credence to give them.

Whereas I once played in goal for my school team, so I know a thing or two about keeping

It’s simple re BPF. If he turns in more performances like Saturday we’ll have little chance of autos. If there are more clangers, I hope Bielsa drops him before they become too common. However I’ve every confidence he’ll bounce back from the latest calamity. He’s raw but has ability unlike the two useless lumps last season

Think that sums it up pretty well. When he’s good, he looks like a proper keeper who has everything a modern keeper needs in his locker... but you can’t hide from clangers as a keeper.

Players need to play without the fear that a mistake will cost them their place, otherwise it paralyses them... you don’t chop and change after one poor performance but you need to judge when what you’re seeing has become a trend. That’s easier with experienced players when you can see a form/confidence thing. BPF is 21 and learning in the job,... and it’s a tougher judgement with inexperienced players when you know the only way they will get experience is from playing and learning from their mistakes. What the management see and we don’t is what happens in training... and whether they are actually learning from them or not... and also they have a day to handle on what the alternative options look like.

It’s not a one size fits all, but Personally, I think one bad game you shrug your shoulders, 2 in close succession you take a long hard look at, 3 it’s time for someone else to have a try. Especially if you’re in a promotion or relegation fight... you don’t have the luxury of putting it down to experience.

Don’t shoot me down as this isn’t a post aimed at knocking BPF but...

I do think we put him on a pedestal a little bit higher than he deserves, he has played well previous games and put in some decent saves but isn’t this what a keeper should do?

Our problem is that previous keepers have been so poor anyone of standard ability will look amazing, Felix, Lonergan and even question marks over Silvestre and before him Rachbuka.

Again I do think BPF is the best we’ve had for a while but the bar hasn’t been set very high, I also feel we need to keep him in goal as he is an improving keeper.

I know I’m jumping the gun here but imagine we do get promoted, I’d be VERY worried with BPF in goal in the PL and I don’t believe he will be ready within the next couple of seasons.

He is one year younger than Angus Gunn and in my opinion a long way behind him yet Angus is number 2 at Southampton

Weve always put our young ones on pedastals and in recent years most have disappointed/failed in PL
