That's coz you haven't had home made indian! I made a shepherds pie tonight. There's no point in being modest, it was ****ing awesome!
That's like me saying people haven't had proper Thai. We can attempt these foods, but it just ain't never the same. So I guess I agree.
You have to get right into it and go to some good places to find the subtleties. Amazing food and by far my fav.
Just preference I suppose. I bought a book years ago that changed my mind on it and made me look beyond having hot curry all the time and went from there. Italian is probably my next fav, don't mean the eating out though but cooking at home and how simple it can be.
Actually prefer Thai and Indian food to Indonesian. Indonesian tends to be spicy for the hell of it whereas Thai and Indian tend to have more flavourful spices in. Some of the curries here are nice but they originate from North Sumatra, and tend to be fusions from when the Indian and Arabian traders came through. What Indonesia is great at are savoury breakfasts. Bubur Ayam - chicken rice porridge with coriander, onions, sambal (chilli sauce) and soy sauce or Nasi Goreng are great Saturday breakfasts
