One of the funniest programmes around was Rising Damp. Leonard Rossiter could have you in stitches without even saying anything. I watched Reginald Perrin as well, funny in a different way. He's another who left us far too soon. RIP.

The government have just announced they are investing £1.4b of taxpayer money into building a stadium fit to be the new home for football in England. It will be located in London.

Not in the same league as Rossiter, in my opinion.

    Unbelievable, imo.
They claim it will help them reinvest in grass roots football:
Yeah, like that's really going to happen.
Anyway, is the FA really so short of money that it needs to resort to this to do its job properly? Perhaps they'd be better off taking serious measures to curb the amount of money being leached out of the game by agents and other parasites who have no real interest in football other than as a cash cow.

The bastards don't give a **** about grassroots football, when me and my mates managed 3 kids teams in three different Liverpool leagues we had to pay membership to the County FA(who in turn have to pay the FA for their membership), we also had to pay league fees which goes partly from them to the County FA, the goalpost and netting were crap, the pitches were mostly ****e and the changing facilities falling to bits or just a couple of old containers.
The FA pump what's left of the money they themselves don't pocket into their own academy's which are basically for England Youth.
Amateur football should break away from the FA and form their own organisation well away from London and not employ anyone who has never been involved in grassroots/amateur football.<grr>

Exactly, we all know where the money will go - or we know where it won't go, at least.
It's just them trying to sell the idea to the public that they're acting for the good of the game. It's similar to Boris' outrageous lie about the NHS and Brexit.
Far too many people swallowed that porky, so the FA might as well try something similar.

Twitter is hilarious, search for Wembley for the stadium sale and you also get news about all UK trains being cancelled because of a minor signal problem near Wembley

Selling public things off to private investors at a loss #whatcouldpossiblygowrong

Always been smoke and mirrors where the FA are involved, the hierarchy within its ranks have never tried to save money, in fact it's the opposite, everyone knows property is more expensive in London so they base their headquarters in London, they know that it's extremely expensise for northern supporters to get to cup finals and international games, so instead of building a national stadium in the midlands they opt for the new Wembley in London.
They pay themselves totally over the top salaries, have Chauffeur driven cars and eat like royalty at top restaurants out of FA funds.
The PFA are no better, Taylor does **** all and is the highest paid Union Leader on the planet, he was never rich as a player yet lives like a king these days funded by millionaire players.
They're all as bad as anything we accuse FIfa/Uefa of being.<laugh>

Despite the fact that the two most successful clubs in the country, bringing millions of supporters and millions of pounds into the game are in the North West.

Most of all the domestic titles and cups were by north-west clubs, the national football museum is based in the north and rightly so, but the most important institutions/organisations of our game are based down south, the premier League, the FA and the football league.<laugh>

It's worse than that. I still can't work out how the game we invented was hijacked by the French and FIFA. <laugh>
