i think it's done on a marketing thing for fifa personally. see the reaction when ronaldinho etc came out and the applause it got compared to the bloke who gave up his time to give blood. disgusting!!
oh.... well... i found it all rather funny. Look ronaldinho can read (who'd have thought).. look heres a wierdo who travelled to see his team play. oh look here's a player who donated blood (like... grand but its not a kidney lads) idris elba selfie moment (cringe) Team of year didn't include salah who was thrid apparently in player of year and keeper of year was courtois (joke) but de gea was in team of year. nonsensical stuff. How the **** did salah's goal win the goal of year award??? then noel gallagher had a dig before award and then stunk the place out singing. The only think was modric really deserved his award imo.
de gea is a far better keeper than coutois, so no idea how that got switched round lol. modric deserved his award.
As if Kane would vote for Mo. "Gareth Southgate - England coach Luka Modric (1st) Raphael Varane (2nd) Eden Hazard (3rd) Alex Mcleish - Scotland coach Mohamed Salah (1st) Eden Hazard (2nd) Luka Modric (3rd) Ryan Giggs - Wales coach Luka Modric (1st) Kylian Mbappe (2nd) Cristiano Ronaldo (3rd) Martin O'Neill - Republic of Ireland coach Lionel Messi (1st) Cristiano Ronaldo (2nd) Mohamed Salah (3rd) Michael O'Neill - Northern Ireland coach Mohamed Salah (1st) Luka Modric (2nd) Kevin De Bruyne (3rd) Lionel Messi - Argentina captain Luka Modric (1st) Kylian Mbappe (2nd) Cristiano Ronaldo (3rd) Cristiano Ronaldo - Portugal captain Raphael Varane (1st) Luka Modric (2nd) Antoine Griezmann (3rd) Harry Kane - England captain Cristiano Ronaldo (1st) Lionel Messi (2nd) Kevin De Bruyne (3rd) Luka Modric - Croatia captain Raphael Varane (1st) Cristiano Ronaldo (2nd) Antoine Griezmann Hugo Loris - France captain Raphael Varane (1st) Antoine Griezmann (2nd) Kylian Mbappe (3rd) Manuel Neuer - Germany captain Eden Hazard (1st) Luka Modric (2nd) Raphael Varane (3rd) Virgil van Dijk - Netherlands captain Mohamed Salah (1st) Kevin De Bruyne (2nd) Kylian Mbappe (3rd) Sergio Ramos - Spain captain Luka Modric (1st) Cristiano Ronaldo (2nd) Lionel Messi (3rd)"
Messi wasn't up for the award... Clearly Ronaldo knew he wasn't going to win beforehand and just though **** it it's not important to turn up and show support for his ex team mate of how many years.
Voting in generally biased. Don't vote for a rival and vote for someone in your team. Modric deserves it though. Champions league final and winning it and getting to the world cup final with Croatia is out standing achievement. Nice to see a non striker or forward win
How are these awards any different from a cattle show? Football is a team sport but if you are going to have such awards it is better rewarding different positions as it is more objective rather than who scored the most.
It's like TV and film awards, or anything similar - it's just all about politics. I never watch award ceremonies, they're such a load of bullshit.
I'd be interested in a kind of opta stat-based awards. The current ones are just a Garth Crooks style algorithm. Even De Gea and Kante shouldn't be in the World XI based on the last season. I can't judge whether Marcelo and Alves really deserve it, but if I were going to guess beforehand who would be there it would be them. Coincidence?
Lots of moaning because Mo won the Puskas Goal Award, difference between that and the main award is that public vote for the winner, considering the heavily overestimated man u global fanbase is in billions and their undying love for Ronaldo and hatred for all things Liverpool it is a surprise that Salah managed to win it. But then again their supporters in the Amazonian rainforests, the Gobi Desert, the Arctic icecap and *****lian slopes don't have WiFi or phone connection.
This new BBC article asks some relevant questions about the Fifa Awards but the author of the article kills it by bleating as to why Pogba wasn't included. Best Fifa Football Awards: Can anyone make sense of them? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45636797
You're right, so the Fifa committee who chose it as a nomination must have picked it on the basis it would get obliterated by Ronaldo's and Bale's, but their fiendish plan backfired bigtime.
