Well a wins a win, still not a great performance but there were some better performances - and despite not playing well we are 5th when we do start playing (and there were some good signs tonight) we will be there or thereabouts.
Everyone with the club at heart will breathe a sigh of relief at that result. We've been getting a right kicking from the media in the last couple of weeks. That just takes the pressure off a little bit. Well played RCL - top singing. COYS!
Watched the game with me Mum, said to her at HT the game was crying out for Lamela. Brighton were sitting too deep for Lucas or Son to use their pace. Lamela came on and completely took control, he’s an expert when operating in those tight spaces where teams defend deep, great goal as well after excellent play. Rose MOTM. The first good LB performance this season from either player. That cements him for the next match. Kane had three shots and hit them all at Ryan. Glad he’s finally getting chances but he’s gotta finish at least one of them, the third one ended up resulting in Brighton’s goal, those last two minutes we just completely switched off. Took his penalty superbly though. Much needed win. Not the best of performances again but while we’re in this iffy patch we just need to pick up points.
Ryan is the most under rated keeper league, his positioning is second to none. If he was 6 or 7 inches taller then he would be the best in the world, but then again, if I had a few more inches.......
Agree, Ryan’s quality, he’s my FPL keeper. Pretty sure he had a trial with us a few years back when he was still playing in Australia. Kane still has to do better though, at least test Ryan with a low shot to the corner. All three were straight at him. Kane from any previous season buries at least two of those. Still as I said, at least he’s getting chances now, that’s encouraging and hopefully a sign he’s getting back on the right track.
Totally. I starting supporting spurs because of the brand of football we were known for, and I’d never want that to stop. But ****ing hell, when we’re 2-0 up, can we just shut up shop at the end, maybe? Please? We’ve got to get better at this. Decent result though. The Amex is not an easy place to go, and there were definitely plenty of positives. Gazzaniga being one of them. Sadly he seems to be in the KWP club and doesn’t get game time. Really rate him, though. Kane was much like his old self today, and it was a relief to see it. If he continues like that, the goals will come in no time. Much better today, and as others have said, a vital win. Onwards and upwards! COYS
Have to disagree slightly. Sherringham lived on getting 95% of his shots on target, some go in, some don't, but all the time your shot is between the posts and under the bar you stand a chance of scoring.
What's annoying is we've often been able to do that under Poch but for some reason or another, we've gone all Pre-Poch when it comes to maintaining leads this season or just defending in general, it's been way below what we've become accustomed too under the gaffer. It's probably not been helped though by the fact Dier and Dembele haven't been at their best so far, today they looked 'better' but still far from their usual selves.
I don't think the influence of Hugo on the defence can be ignored either, the confidence he gives the defence has shown in these last couple of weeks
An utter drivelfest in the BBC comments... "KANE , another penalty , never gonna be a shearer or anything close ,, good at penalties though lol !!! But nowhere near world class !!" - chelski 99, who apparently never watched Alan "Another Penalty" Shearer play "Rubbish by the Spurs again. Come back when you support a real club like United" - The official Review, obviously upset when they looked at the table "Lucky Spursy" - UTC, contradicting himself in just two words
Says a lot about the intelligence of the BBC commenters that they're prattling on about Kane diving for the penalty. When? Meanwhile here's the cover for every Spurs-related romantic novel for the remainder of the season please log in to view this image
A big improvement yesterday to have such a positive looking bench: Whiteman, Aurier, Sanchez, Wanyama, Winks, Lamela, Dele. That's got a bit of nearly everything on it and Lamela came on and changed the run of the game and Dele also looked good. Having 2 creative players of first team quality to come on when teams are tiring is a huge step forward. It's such a shame that Llorente's just a dead weight - we should have got ourselves a weapon there but he's of less use than Sissoko. Will he play some part in the League Cup? He's had no football and I doubt that there's any point. I hope that Victor Wanyama is fit enough to start to contribute something soon. We could really do with him at something approaching 2016/17 form. Being able to rotate him with Eric Dier would definitely help with the number of games in the next couple of months, just as in rotating full backs.
