And the MEP's have mostly been elected on turnouts below 25%. I'd be surpised if other countries turnouts were much higher. The fact is the British public in particular couldn't have given a f*ck about the European Parliament yet suddenly everyone is bleating about us remaining in it. As for accountability, yes governments were elected but few voters would have been thinking anything about Europe especially as the opposition at those times were such a rabble under Foot, Kinnock, Hague and Howard so we have sleepwalked into it.

I'd also like to see the certified accounts for the past 20 years but I doubt that would happen in my lifetime...

  2. I agree about the way she was treated in Salzburg but think she should be careful not to labour the point about respect. The mud slinging from both sides across the channel has been more befitting of a local derby than one of the most complicated international negotiation since the War. Mind, she's stayed out of it on the whole.

mmm I am not sure that is correct. I am sure you will have a EU attendance spreadsheet at hand to prove the case, however, I recently heard someone put this question to Farage and I believe he gave a competent answer. It was something to do with turning up and not getting a say and them not listening and being mocked....funnily the same thing happened to May just yesterday? :1980_boogie_down:.
People are scared of Farage because he told it how it was and remoaners cant accept it. Why bother going to these meetings if they won't listen to you. You can also ask David Cameron as he had the same problem.

<applause> spot on Sooper! They all love the EU but most didn't have a clue about what was going on before.

Although I sort of agree with Sb that 'trenches are dug', sometimes you have to put allegiances aside and smell the coffee. I don't care if it was Corbyn/Abbot or (whoever is in charge of the Liberals)? You don't treat the PM like that.
As for the EU? Time and time again we are finding out just how crooked they are and yet we still have people worshiping them. <doh>

To be honest Ellers, I don’t particularly give a monkeys arse how May was treated. They are all corrupt, vile people who don’t give a **** about you or me. They could try to beat other to death with tent poles and I still wouldn’t give a ****.

I do remember (correctly or otherwise) that happened to Farage when he turned up as MEP after either the vote or after article 50 was triggered. I think he was gloating a lot either way and they blanked him.

I don't think the low turnouts in Euro elections can be interpreted that way. Do low local election turnouts mean that people don't care about policing in their locality?

In fact, the opposite is true in my opinion - people will only vote if they want a change to the status quo (and yes the referendum could be given as an example of that).

That surprises me Staines I thought you would show a bit more compassion towards how a woman was treated, barring in mind she is only doing a job.

Being a woman is nothing to do with it......and by making it out that she was bullied because she was a woman really does lessen the fact that many women are bullied because they are female.

A bit like the people who see racism in everything making it harder when real racism rears it’s ugly head.

As I said if it had been a woman in any other environment it would have been a different story. However, it was still very disrespectful to treat the UK PM in that manner.

You act like you’re surprised that people like that treat others disrespectfully.
It’s what they are......it’s what they do.
The political elite have been doing it for years and it ain’t gonna change anytime soon.

Absolutely, even cuddly Corbyn and his 'nicer' politics is as laughable as it is nasty...

To be fair.....he’s one of the better ones (in my opinion).
But agreed, I don’t think I could trust any politician to put my interests first.

They told her Chequers was rubbish. Isn't that what you lot and the arch remainers were all saying? And yet because she's a woman they should have said something different? Explain that logic to me without the emotive overreaction and indignation.

It's simple. Your point I agree with. But it was a hypothetical situation. How do the people of Northern Ireland get to decide.

That's why they are all foaming at the mouth. They've looked into the abyss and realised possibly for the first time that Europe is not as desperate for the UK to be rolled out a red carpet and allowed to cherry pick. We want free trade with you and with the rest of the world, want access to your market, don't want to pay a penny after we leave and none of you lot can work here in the future unless we allow it and we can kick you out whenever we want to. What's not to like? They genuinely believe every word of that bullshit.

You do have a habit of getting your knickers in a twist and deflecting
    away from
the point that's been made to you. It's so obvious. Can't you find your source that you relied on
