It seems Robbins advised May that there was a danger of rejection, but she decided to plough on regardless. Reports also that she went in with a 'take it or leave it' confrontational attitude which is why the EU reacted badly. I get the feeling May is more concerned with her own position than what is best for the country.

I think their behaviour was counter-productive, but it's their club, they make the rules. A No-Deal hurts the EU, but it hurts us much more. Telling them to **** off is not a good policy, Col.

Don't know about the Robbins background - presumably we'll hear in due course. The problem I have with the approach of the Brussels elite is the disrespectful way they behave to humiliate and disrespect anyone opposing them. The Tusk tweet about cake but no cherry with a photo of May was unforgivable. I really dislike them and their modus operandi. I've reached the point where, absent some genuine EU flexibility, I'd accept a no deal willingly just to be free of them. There will be a bumpy ride tempoarily, but hey, a reforming addict goes cold turkey to kick heroin and feels a whole lot better thereafter

I love all this "it will be hard for them but harder for us" from all our experts on here. If we leave with a no deal and don't give them the money I can see many EU countries falling to bits unless German/France bail them out which I don't believe they will do.

There you go, Goldie. Does that feel better? All this 'nobody wants a no-deal' was just bollocks wasn't it?

Nope. But I don't want this country to back down in the face of ****s like Tusk and Junckers. I don't think I'm alone in this.

In one tweet, Tusk has hardeded attitudes in this country against the bullying EU management

Should we expect them to back down? We're leaving, but we expect to dictate the terms on which we leave? It's a fiasco.

Spot on Goldie. Only the usual remoaning lefties are sticking up for the EU.
The good thing about the EU own goal is that many remainers are now questioning the attitude of the EU. I have heard caller after caller (remain voters) on the radio in last day saying if it was run again they would vote leave.

If you enter negotiations, it's implicit you are prepared to compromise. The EU haven't moved an inch. As a result, both sides are heading for WTO terms

You can see loads of stuff can't you? Last week you were telling us that your 'secret' source told you that the EU were quaking in their boots and ready to crumble.

£40billion is a lot of dough, but spread over a long period (which it would be) and divided by 27, it's **** all. No kind of ransom.

It won't be divided by 27 because recipient states are expecting the money. Most of the money will be spread over 3 or 4

Go back and chat with your mate Owen Jones. You talk utter rubbish Stroller. You are sounding (with every post) like some old bitter romoaner that couldn't get his way so he moans about everything.
You lost get over it. Stop moaning about your government and country and support it. Or are you still 'enjoying" this?

But they hold all the cards, Goldie. May made a big mistake by trying to act tough in Salzburg. No one thought that the Chequers offer was workable, but the EU made polite noises about it being 'progress'. To put it forward as 'take it or leave it' was laughable. And they laughed.

Pierre Moscovici, Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs said: "Member States have been improving VAT collection throughout the EU. This must be recognised and commended. But a loss of €150 billion per year for national budgets remains unacceptable, especially when €50 billion of this is lining the pockets of criminals, fraudsters and probably even terrorists. A substantial improvement will only come with the adoption of the VAT reform we proposed a year ago. I urge Member States to move forward on the definitive VAT system before the European Parliament elections in 2019."

not a very nice way to talk about the meps
