People are turning away from Labour in their droves. Who would vote for Corbyn and that idiot Abbott?
    Pure lefty fantasy.

I did Ellers, and many from the far-left like me did vote for him because we see it as a refreshing step forward in politics and a move away from the Blairite labour that betrayed the working class.

Yes, it's to be taken with a large pinch of salt, but I'd say there would certainly be a significant net gain.

When you hear of many old-time Labour supporters leaving you have to ask why?
Agree Blair was a lying treacherous muppet but Corbyn is out of date with the modern World. He belongs back in the 70's with Foot and CND. Most importantly he has a big problem with Jews and he will lose many old-time Labour supporters from the Jewish community. Throw Abbott into the mix and you get an unelectable party.
We live in weird political times.

You’re coming at it from one side Ellers. I would say Corbyn has won back a lot of Labour voters who decided Labours move to the ‘right’, with the likes of the war-criminal Bliar was a step too far and either decided to not vote at all or to vote for more marginal Left leaning parties.

You right-wing racist Tory scumbags wouldn’t understand anyway ;)

(I emphasise the last sentence was a joke :) )

Bloody hell this is a bit disconcerting.

Just to be clear I think stupidity, ignorance and a degree of arrogance on all sides has led us to where we are now, I don’t think there was malign intent. The EU has to carry its share of responsibility for the shambles.

As you say Col decent leadership would have sorted this. I don’t think May has strong opinions on anything, she was virtually silent during the referendum campaign. From my perspective the alternatives to her were terrifying, but on reflection we would have been better off going for a full Brexit from day one and using the last couple of years to actually prepare for it.

Serious question for Leavers. Given the strong remain vote in Northern Ireland, would you be prepared for them to stay in the single market etc, essentially the Irish Sea border, in return for everything else you want? The same would be true for Gibraltar, 97% remain but want British passports.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK. They decide how they are treated for customs purposes. An Irish Sea border would be an ideal fix for the rest of the UK, but it would never be acceptable to the Unionist community, so we must accept that. I still believe a technological solution is the answer. The UK government won't give way on this one.

According to the Irish Foreign Minister, a Brexit deal is 90% there. But the 10%, the Northern Irish border and the Customs arrangements on goods and services may be insoluble. We'll find out at the next EU meeting on October 18

I don't think a UK government would ever take a decision that could lead to a united Ireland whilst the people in Northern Ireland wish to remain British.
It is quite a problem, but I can't believe it is beyond the capability of Nations to find a solution.
This is where I disagree with you, as I firmly believe that the EU have had malign intent towards us since we voted to leave and their intransigence has made the Irish border problem even harder to solve.
I'm convinced that the EU will sit on their hands, waiting for us to cave in or change our minds.

For balance, I thought it was a top post too!

If the EU representatives had half a brain, they'd realise that May has isolated herself with this Chequers deal which probably caused some disappointment to everyone but not so much to any one group.

If she had been given encouragement by theEU leaders then there could have been a bit of negotiation but a real prospect of a deal.

Now she's more isolated and cannot give an inch to the EU without it looking like a complete cave in which, with so many knives out, would be political suicide.

The EU need to back track or it'll be no deal and Macron is looking rather two faced in all this. If they don't make conciliatory gestures then I will be angry enough to, as Col so eloquently puts it, tell them to **** off.

Seems that Brexit changes the weight of opinion in NI towards a united Ireland.

Fair enough, but I just get the feeling that 65m people are being held hostage by a few hundred thousand Unionists in NI. Still, best to stay off the Irish question, another intractable one, but at least it will be eventually solved by demographics.

Ball firmly in their court from my understanding. They’ll probably come back with some bollocks about ‘you are the ones wanting to leave, it’s up to you to sort it’ and we will descend ever closer to the playground.

I think it's interesting that die hard remainers on here are getting pissed off with the attitude of the EU.
That is a real indication, imo, that the EU have made a mistake in misjudging the British when riled.

They acted and treated her disgustingly yesterday. We always hear from the EU about treatment of people yet they act like that to the British Prime Minister? They shot themselves in the foot there because many many people are disgusted and are coming out in support for her.

The balls back in their court now so let's see if they react. Will we receive a joke tweet from Tusk or a different approach.
My view is if they treat us like this again we should tell them to @@@@ off and keep the money. Then we will see how clever Macron/Tusk and co look when they have to come up with that money?

OMG listening to Keir Starmer on Sky and after knocking May's Brexit plan was asked 3 questions on what he/Labour would do. <doh> No 2222ing idea! People go on about the Tories not having a solution. He contradicted himself twice in the interview and when challenged on it, looked lost. <doh>
