I don't know if pay-as-you-play deals even exist any more, probably because they never work. If he didn't get in the team (which is probable) then he would have no income. Even a crap agent would be able to find a better deal somewhere else.
I'll always love him for this and every goal he's scored against Pompey for Stoke and other teams since: But we've moved on now.
If he did come back, I would put a tenner on him scoring against the Skates, nobody gets up their noses more than Beatts!
I quite literally bumped in to Beate just outside St Marys at the end of last season. It must have been either the last or second to last game. He must have friends in the club still. Doddsy perhaps?
Give him a trial see how his fitness is. If he proves his fitness give him a short term deal(ie 6month deal etc). No harm in having a look i say. (Btw this is my first post been viewing for ages but decided to join today)
Why not, so long as we also resurrect Pahars! In all honesty, if he could do a job, fine, but I'm not sure he'd really have anything more to add to our current squad.
Welcome Beattie (you're not him are you). Glad you didn't join Wednesday and start posting as the server went into meltdown.
The only way it would be right for him to return would be if NA wanted that type of striker and he passed whatever level of fitness NA required. Any salary would have to suit too. Without knowing Beatts' fitness levels, I would say no thanks, although there is a little part of me that would like to see his hand cupped to his ear at Fratton in December as he bags us the winner!
On paper, Beattie is what we need..a back up strong centre forward (nice old word), but cannot see him fitting into the team and accepting a place on the bench (and not even every match with the 5 sub rule). As a free agent, he will be a bargain for some lower Prem team.
Beattie's Premiership days have gone. He did nothing for Blackpool, can't see the likes of Swansea or Norwich or Wigan wanting him. Championship is probably where he'll end up, unless he fancies going playing in the MLS or in Dubai for one last pay day before retiring (he is 34 in Feb)
If not a Premiership side (haven't followed his career) then a Championship side that needs him and will play him, not us. Hate to say it...Portsmouth.
oh Fran, please no. It would hurt to see him go there - don't think he would. If he was "fit" and kept a little speed, NA may give him til January???? I can't see it though.
Would hurt but if you're looking for a job...you get desperate. Perhaps he'd do a couple of own goals just for old times sake!
I seen him in Southampton airport when I was flying back to Belfast the Sunday after promotion Saturday. I was chatting away to him, got a few photos and that.
A free transfer. A short term contract. What's to lose? Sign him now. It might even persuade my young brother to get out his England shirt with Beattie's name on the back. A reminder of his glory days at Southampton
I don't see the point of bringing him back not exactly what we are looking for to help us move forward? Best to remember how good he was!
I think all he needs is confidence and returning as a hero to St Mary's might be the extra boost he needs. I would definitely take him back, he is free so why not? Would rather he played for us than against us! Get him before someone else does.
