Poch just said in the post match interview that this was our best performance since the start of the season. Seriously, WTF??!
For me it started with us trying to get the second with just a few minutes left. We've got 4 players in their area. It wasn't needed We had them done and beaten. We just needed to see it through. However, just like against Juve at Wembley, United in the semi-final, Watford a week ago, we didn't have the head or heart to guts it out and see it through. There's no ****ing organisation, no fight or determination. Nobody's leading and they all lose their heads. It's pitiful to watch it happen over and over again. Uphill battle now.
I'd probably say the exact opposite, mate. It's the tinkering around with **** that's messing us up. 6 games this season and the starting formation has changed in every one... 4231 has been our formation for 80% of Poch's tenure and it's generally been successful, so why the **** does he feel the need to constantly change that? 4231 vs Newcastle - 2-1 win. Switched to 4231 in the second half against Fulham - 3-1 win. 4231 vs Man Utd - 3-0 win. 4231 vs Inter Milan - winning 1-0 up to 72 minutes before formation change. 3421 vs Fulham - 1-1 at HT before switching to 4231. 3421 vs Watford - 2-1 loss. 3 CMs, CAM and LW vs Pool - 2-1 loss - clawed a goal back when 4231. Switched to 3CMs, CAM and LW vs Inter at 1-0 up, loses 2-1 after the switch.
Poch has just said “best performance of the s Lots of players have been here for 4,5,6 years and won nothing. They aren’t paid the going rate. A new stadium at the start of this season was the carrot being dangled, and there’s no sign of it. No signings were made to improve the squad and push on, providing reassurance to those players who have invested a lot of time in the club already, and could therefore possibly provide an opportunity of winning something. I fail to believe that the players aren’t thinking about 1 or more of these.
I don't like criticising poch but he cost us the result tonight 2nd half when we went ahead we dominated for a while and had enough chances to see the game out then came the changes lucas was superb but the last 2 subs were ridiculous.
It’s not the formation that needs to change. 4231 is fine. But how about we go back to the time when Kane was inured? That was literally the last time we played good football, and we won’t some matches, convincingly.
He should never be in that position and neither should Eriksen. We pull everyone back into the box and it's chaos. Leave them up and make the opposition keep players back. Who's going to risk pushing everyone forward if the ball can pop out to one of them? Our set-pieces have been an issue for a while, but they're an utter shambles this season. Constantly hitting the first man with our attacking ones and conceding all the time at the other end. Nobody seems to know what they're supposed to be doing. Our virtually non-existent preseason probably didn't help.
Kane wasn't that bad today to be fair, missed a sitter but his hold up play was positive. It was the most Kane has looked like old Kane all season. I just don't wanna see a change in formation again. We have to play 4231, anything else and it's just stupid in my opinion.
Roo I'm sorry but if the players were as negative as you we would be looking at relegation. That was such a stupid loss we are all pissed off but I am not going to comment on Spurs or MP until I have got over my annoyance as I don't want to join in with this pit of despair.
I honestly think half of Kanes loss of form is due to him being given the Spurs and England captaincy. Ever since he’s trying to take on too much responsibility and cover too much ground. He just needs to get back to what he does best, terrifying defenders and running the channels. Someone send him a Shearer compilation video for some brushing up.
This is a crisis - not even a mini-crisis - this is a full blown, head might roll crisis! 3 matches on the spin that we have surrendered meekly in games (or at least in 2 of which) we should have won. If only those 3 games then fine, but they are the same types of defeat that we have been suffering in key games for some time now. Poch talks about ‘mentality’ - but whatever it is, we ain’t got it right now. Inter were poor, bloody awful in fact, but they still managed to out press us in the first half. Second half they completely ran out of legs and were casting hopeful balls forward in desperation. The game was there to be won comfortably, but a succession of missed opportunities and bizarre substitutions and we gave it away - without so much as a fight. The decisions around Toby and Tripps and the strange Cantona-esque ramblings at the Presser just reinforce the concern that something is not right. This needs sorting - fast! There’s too much work gone into the last few years to see it dissolve before our eyes.
Kane was better tonight, but holding up the ball as the only positive thing, it’s not enough IMO. Another game without a shot at goal. If he’s shooting but not scoring, he’s going through a bad spell, or a patch of poor form. But it’s worrying how we’re not even frequently seeing him in goal scoring positions or striking the ball. It’s not the Kane we’re used to. It’s not a pit of despair Spurf. I’ve not been one to particularly lay into Poch, as I mentioned in “the project” thread. Yes subs can be poorly timed or a bit odd, but I genuinely don’t think he has much choice at times. Some players just aren’t up to it. Believe me, we’re far from the dark days of old, but there’s no harm in discussing or questioning why things are like they are at the moment. There could me more to this than meets the eye. That’s all I’m getting at.
He did have the one-on-one, may not have counted as a shot on goal but that was as good of a scoring opportunity as you'll ever get, last season's Kane buries that no problem. His hold up play in previous seasons is part of the reason many consider him the complete striker, the fact he started doing that today whereas in previous games he'd literally done nothing, is at least a sign of him (hopefully) finding his feet. For me, if we stick to our favoured 4231 formation, players will start improving as they get readjusted to the system but the constant tinkering is causing no one to find a rhythm.
I don't think anyone can make a rational comment on what is going on behind the scenes or on the pitch at the moment cos we are pissed at us throwing away the lead against Watford and again tonight with a poor performance squashed inbetween v Liverpool. Tomorrows comments will be better thought out imho
Ok, he had 1. And he decided to take it round the keeper before losing control, rather than just shooting. As I’ve said, 4231 is fine. It’s a formation that has generally been successful for us in the past. So we should stick with it as we know it works for us. I just don’t understand why when Kane is playing so bang average, we can’t play the 4231 we played whilst he was out injured, especially with the addition of Lucas now. We currently have no rhythm because of Kane, IMO.
