I am certainly not a WUM No one here is ever negative of anything the club does. You are allowed an opinion even though KK is in charge. I love the club and hope the decision was right to sell meirles- i hope i can look back on this thread in May and say i was wrong to think such a thing but just voicing a couple of questions which have arisen in my head.
Torres was our best player for last few seasons, we sold him. Meirles was our best player last season[he won an award of some sort can't remember what] he was sold. Our best players sold hence that was my logic to wondering if we have become a selling club. Obviously people disagree with this logic
Mereiles wasn't Liverpools best player, I think you should check your facts, Lucas was Liverpools best player.
He won PFA Fans Player of the Year, which is usually quite prestigious (the last winners before him were Rooney, Gerrard, Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Rooney, Lampard, Henry, Henry). But then last season was a particularly bad season for top players performing - the other awards last season were won by Bale and Parker so it doesn't necessarily mean he was your best player. I did think he was one of your best players last season, and I was surprised he was sold, but then if he wasn't willing to risk being a squad player then what can you do?
Swarbs. He was sold because he handed in a written transfer request. Kenny has a philosophy of not keeping players that don't want to be at the club, that applies to all players. Liverpool made a profit on a player that can't play for 90 minutes and performed for 4 months.
Exactly what I think. Disappointed he's gone, but he was never going to start every game, and would have to cope with most of the season on the bench being an impact sub. He's gone to Chelsea now, and he'll have a better crack at getting into their midfield, as they don't have quite as many of them as us.
Strange post. Either a lack of understanding as to why the players were sold when it is quite clear, or a wum post. Mereiles was sold as we are top heavy with midfielders and as he is 29 going on 30 and the club are looking to the future it made sense that he moved on. Lets remember that Torres had one good season with us and that his transfer has proven to be a good decision. The title of the the thread is what has caused the backlash as it is a silly suggestion when we have quite obviously invested heavily in the squad.
What, one player leaving suddenly means we're threadbare does it? Gerrard, Adam, Lucas, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey...that's 6 players who could feasibly play in a CM position, which is where Raul would be used this season. We have two for the left in Maxi and Downing (the latter will probably start all 38 games this season) On the right we could play Kuyt, Bellamy, Gerrard or Henderson. Our depth is fine. We've sold someone who wanted to leave and who would be bit part this season anyway.
Respect is earnt on here, getting on to the BBC Live thread means nothing. I've read what some of the numpties have written on there. Write a couple of decent articles for the forum and peoples opinions will change
I obviously rate raul more than most people here. I think confusion has been caused by the term selling club. I think we are short on cm now, certainly if we play 3 in the middle. I don't believe shelvey or spearing should start this season.
Why? Spearing proved himself to be pretty decent last season. in CM we have Lucas, Gerrard, Adam, Henderson, Spearing & Shelvey - thats 6 players which is more then enough, heck even a side with just Spearing and Shelvey in the centre would be adequite to beat a lot of premier league teams
I think most reds rated Raul, no question about that, but he's gone now so get over it. It was a good bit of business & made perfect sense for the FSG moneyball policy. £15m for an injury prone 29 year old player - thankyou very much Roman.
