Maradona is going to manage in CDS (Cartel de Sinaloa) heartland - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45442689 - who nose it could turn out allwhite and line up well. I wonder how he'll cut it?
Does anyone on here really understand what this 'Nations League' is all about and what it's relationship is to the Euros 2020 ?
Just another money making exercise to prevent player getting any rest during the season If we do get the midwinter break a mini tournament will be invented to ensure the players are making money for someone instead of recharging their batteries
4 teams from each section can win a place in the tournament but there is also the usual qualifying groups next year . So everyone has 2 chances I guess but you'd expect the big teams to get through anyway . Really it's another chance for a minnow country to reach the Euros from Pot D or even Scotland!
Looking forward to tonight but can't decide whether to hit the spanish bar. It is on terrestrial TV here but my spanish family are not interested in soccer Think I'll try the first half in the bar. When we score I'll have to do a Jaspar Carrot "Yup" Hopefully the cricket is a good pointer. Enjoy everyone
England lost - probably should have got a point but you did feel Spain were a class apart at times in terms of keeping the ball. Mixed night for Rashford - scored but missed a chance or two. Hopefully Shaw is ok as that clash of heads looked nasty. Welbeck's disallowed goal showed how protected goalkeepers are.
Going back to Mark's point re the pointless friendly, it has been stated by the higher ranked countries that they have nothing to gain from playing the lower nations such as Gibraltar, San Marino and Faroe Islands to name 3. I think it would be a good idea, if possible, to send B teams to these nations. The players in the squads would get a boost as they would know that they are in the managers plans and with the England Lions squads in cricket, if there is an injury in the full squad that requires a replacement to be called up, those players would be considered before anyone outside the squad. It would be left up to the FA of the relevant smaller nation if they were to class these matches from their perspective as full internationals and award caps accordingly.
We have a few B internationals in the past - I remember Glenn Hoddle and Chris Sutton having a row over one in the 90s. I suppose if you played fringe players in competitive games it might be seen as disrespectful but I tend to agree - give them a go.
Southampton 2 goals up against Brighton, yet it finished up a draw. More points dropped that they will not get back.
I left it last night 2-0 and looking at the stats and text commentary couldn't imagine a way back for the seagulls. I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of these were in the relegation scrap to come so as you say OFH good news.
