Jewish groups ‘stand in solidarity’ with Muslims calling for Tory Islamophobia probe Students and human rights groups offer backing to the Islamic community in rooting out racism within the Conservative party By Jewish News reporter June 5, 2018, 11:59 am 3 300 shares please log in to view this image Interior of London Central Mosque Jewish students and human rights activists this week said they “stand in solidarity” with Muslim peers in calling for an investigation into Islamophobia in the Conservative Party. The Union of Jewish Students (UJS) expressed “outrage at the recent scourge of anti-Muslim hatred” from Tory councillors and MPs, while the Jewish Council for Racial Equality (JCORE) likened the problem to anti-Semitism in the Labour Party. The UJS intervention comes just days after the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) demanded an independent inquiry, naming Harrow East MP Bob Blackman as having a particularly problematic record of belonging to Islamophobic online groups. Get The Jewish News Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories Free Sign Up Jewish student leaders on Monday backed the calls for a thorough investigation and urged the Tory high command to “take a hard line on this insidious form of hate, act swiftly in disciplining those responsible and commission an inquiry”. Both UJS and JCORE referred to the Jewish community’s concerns about anti-Semitism in the Labour Party in referencing the Muslim community’s concerns about the Conservative Party. A UJS spokesman said: “When the Jewish community stood outside Parliament and demanded ‘enough is enough’ with anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, we were grateful to be joined by allies from other minority communities. “So it is only right that when the Muslim community is facing abuse, our community too stands behind them entirely.” The MCB say recent incidents include Conservatives tweeting that the Prophet Mohammed was “a f****** *****phile,” describing Islam “the new Nazism” and re-tweeting articles that call Muslims “parasites”. JCORE director Dr Edie Friedman said the organisation “welcomes the call for Islamophobia to be investigated within the Conservative Party” and likened it to Jewish concerns about Labour. “In the same way as there is a focus on combatting anti-Semitism including within the Labour Party, it is incumbent on all groups and communities to come together to look at how we can be more effective in combatting hate speech and behaviour across the entire political spectrum,” she said. “This requires action from the leadership and grassroots of all political parties, religious organisations and civil society. Prejudice directed towards any group is an affront to our society and weakens the social cohesion on which we all depend.” On Monday, Home Secretary Sajid Javid rejected demands for an inquiry by the MCB, which he said “does not represent Muslims,” and denied that the Conservative Party had a problem within its ranks. He added that the government does not deal with the MCB “because too many of their members have had favourable comments on extremists and that’s not acceptable”. MCB General-Secretary Harun Khan said Javid’s comments just prove the point, adding: “The reality of Islamophobia is that Muslims and the MCB have to deal with the smear of extremism even though they have clearly and consistently condemned violence perpetrated by people who claim to do this in the name of our religion.”
Jewish leader condemns Conservatives for backing far-right Hungarian government Written by: Kevin Schofield Posted On: 13th September 2018 A Jewish community leader has criticised the Conservatives after most of the party's MEPs voted against a European Parliament motion condemning Hungary's right-wing government. please log in to view this image Theresa May with Hungarian PM Viktor Orban Credit: PA Images Mafrie van der Zyl - president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews - said she was "disappointed" at the actions of the Tory group in Brussels on Wednesday. They voted against imposing sanctions on Viktor Orban's authoritarian regime, which has been accused of racism, anti-Semitism, restricting press freedom and undermining judicial independence. The call for disciplinary action - which needed a two-thirds majority in the European Parliament - was carried by 448 votes to 197. Despite repeated requests, the Conservatives have yet to explain why the majority of their MEPs voted in support of the Orban government, although Downing Street has said it was not consulted beforehand. In a statement, Ms van der Zyl said: "I note with disappointment that Conservative MEPs have voted in defence of Hungary's right-wing, populist government of Viktor Orban. "As we have stated previously, we are very alarmed by the messages at the heart of Orban's election campaign, including his comments about 'Muslim invaders' calling migrants 'poison' and the vivid anti-Semitism in the vivid campaign against Jewish philanthropist George Soros." She added: "It is very concerning that Conservative Party MEPs chose to defend Hungary's appalling track record, rather than supporting a motion to protect the rule of law." A spokesman for Jeremy Corbyn yesterday said it was "absolutely shocking that the Conservative MEPs voted against that motion". He said: "Viktor Orban's government in Hungary has clearly attacked judicial and media independence, denied refugee rights and pandered to anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. "And it was absolutely right that a motion of censure and an investigation under the disciplinary processes of the European Union was launched and voted on… "Theresa May should condemn the Hungarian government and should support this investigation and action."
I Its been a busy week stroller Can't read **** all week Takes me long enough to read the right wing nonsense Fitting in the left wing stuff nonsense as well isnt always possible I can just read your posts Why is calling moHamed a peado so bad It's what he seems to be In today's world anyway I don't think it's just the Hungarian's who dislike soros
https://amp.theguardian.com/food/20...-be-bare-jay-rayner?__twitter_impression=true Interesting and decidedly worrying. Still Brexit means Brexit and all that.
Oh Frome, haven’t you learned the rules yet? If an ‘expert’, in other words someone who has studied a subject and genuinely knows what they are talking about, says something that doesn’t fit with the way you wish the world to be, they should be mocked, called a fear monger and ignored. If what they say happens to turn out to be correct there will be lots of people, like foreigners and anybody who disagrees with you, to blame. There are no possible circumstances where you have to admit to yourself that it’s you who are wrong, or have to change your mind. Ever.
Oh my god!!!!! Does that mean we cannot grow onions, apples, grapes and tomatoes in the UK! Where shall we get our food from! I better start stocking up the bare cupboards just in case. As for the wine we won't need to get it from France because all the growers will be broke once we stop the subsidies. Sunday Project fear.
The flip side to all of this is that if the food doesn't come to the UK to an extent there is a food shortage then there will be plenty of farms over Europe going broke. Without us buying the goods from the EU then there will be plenty of P'd people. I would give the French farmers 5 minutes before they give in, go on strike and come back cap in hand. If not then South Africa,Australia and New Zealand will be shipping out loads of food to us again. Happy days.
France wine going broke now I have heard it all. The U.K. cannot get anywhere near the supply required to feed the nation but of course that doesn’t mean we need to import via the EU... we can fly in as we do now from Africa we would only need to buy 200 cargo planes and build a few airports to fill the gap of using the seamless route we currently use A no deal means that all stops next March Sow your seeds Ellers I agree however that the farmers may be busy ... very busy and they may have trouble getting a workforce in the interim period of 10 years. All kids currently 8 or under I recommend they go to agriculture college now If farming does get a boost then I will be back full time as I can grow things plus I will give jobs to all the work shy brexiteers
Shelf times from AS and NZ will never compete with SA, Kenya etc time zone... have you any idea about the farming industry from Africa currently? I think you haven’t it’s maxed out currently we would need many new airports and who will build them? U.K. can’t we haven’t got the companies or skill sets nor have we got the money after Brexit. French farming is possibly the strongest farming community in Europe it runs the EU in effect and holds powers I believe you have no idea about ... I do You are a customer in a broken shop in a society with its head in the sand I challenge you to offer some solutions just for farming with a no deal Brexit and a supply that can after Brexit charge double overnight if they choose to . They won’t ever go bust they will simply move their model to suit the market But let’s all call Junkerman a tosser that will work great Time to understand the power Ellers imo we are a shop prices will rise I want to see Brexiteers pay for any difference. The UK’s customer base has exactly what power? Things have never been so cheap as recently and there will be changes and of course opportunities
If you actually believe that all those farmers in the EU will stop sending all the food to the UK you really are sounding stupid. Rules of economics are you don't stop trading to the guy that keeps your business going. It will never happen. In fact, if you or any other remoaner wants to state today (now) that the EU will stop selling us food say it. Come on, don't be shy put your project fear where your mouth is. I will be waiting
Funilly before the EU we used to get fruit and meats from SA/AU/NZ without problems and it would happen again.
No, no Ellers, you simply don't understand. The world will most probably stop turning the minute we leave the wonderful, caring, generous, democratic EU. How the **** did we ever manage all those centuries as an independent Nation?
Absolutely spot on. I mean look how often all those economic experts get everything right....... Oh, wait!
