If anyone was thinking we were poor and outclassed by Spain on Saturday, they've annhilated World Cup Finalists Croatia 6-0 tonight.....so it wasn't only England that flattered to deceive in the "easy" side of the World Cup draw. Meanwhile, England beat Switzerland in a friendly - was anyone even watching? Iceland are also in League 1....although don't expect them to stay there long.... And an old favourite up to his usual tricks.....
England were poor first half, with many players starting who haven't played much this season. The likes of Loftus Cheek and Wellbeck looked well off the pace, with the former looking like he really couldn't be arsed! We moved the ball slowly, especially when playing out from the back where Butland wasn't up to the job. There was zero pressing too. Thankfully Gareth must have fired some ****s into them at half-time. He also made a subtle change of formation and also got the wide centre backs to push up into the spaces behind the wing backs (my lad spotted that straight away). We were so much better 2nd half, pressing in packs and moving the ball much quicker. We then brought on a few first choice players and totally out played the Swiss. Spain beating Croatia 6-0 has put England's narrow defeat to Spain into perspective imo.
I think the new Nations League thing makes the old style friendlies even more meaningless and forgettable. They should have 4 teams in each of the Nations League groups so each batch of two games are competitive.
Just watching the Birmingham v West Brom game has reminded me of a video from a couple of years ago. These Brummie fans forked out for a corporate box for their game v Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrews, unfortunately for them the box was in the away end ...
