Ha Ha The happiness on Weimann's face when Matty came on was overwhelming, he ran his proverbials off like he had a new lease of life. They are a potent partnership who compliment each other so well.
Though I won't go as far as to 100% agree with RR, I certainly see where he's coming from. I think LJ deserves credit for identifying Sheffield United's strengths & adapting accordingly, and it is too simplistic to say 'don't change a winning team', as it: 1, makes you more predictable to prepare against & 2 undermines the idea of a squad of players that is required to prosper over a League season. However, you do also have to reward those that have put in good performances like Taylor has. To a critic, the substitutions would be an admission by LJ that he had gotten things wrong & was correcting it, whereas otherwise it could be argued that he had adapted to how the game was going or had a pre-meditated plan to change things up. For me personally, I think whichever of Diedhiou or Taylor comes off of the bench is a great option to have, though even now after having won a game against a strong opponent, I still would have chosen to start Taylor. I certainly won't criticise LJ for the difficult decision he ended up taking though.
I can see both sides of the argument, I imagine Lee does too , but he’s the one who had to make the call , last time he started Matty and bought Fam on as a sub , this time he chose the other option , both times we won , it also shares the burden and keeps both fit and involved . I too do see where RR is coming from, but feel there’s a bit more to it than just dropping Matty for Fam.
Yes, getting back to the match itself, another great result that takes us up to 3rd, just a point from the top! Some tough fixtures coming up to really test our mettle. West Brom have been a bit inconsistent but you feel as though they have the team to challenge if everything clicks, so anything from there would be good, Wigan will be difficult to beat at home & Villa, despite their poor form, have the individuals to win matches - it'll be interesting to see if Bruce is still in charge by then!
I just watched the highlights and I thought we looked very united and composed. The next 2 away matches will test the resilience that I saw.
I Imagine if we lose to West Brom, the "Backwards United" mob will be back with their comments in why (LJ) it's all going wrong
