    Chesney = Reina.

Chesney is big, commanding, comes for crosses and claims well or punches a decent distance. He's a large, imposing guy. Reina is less commanding, partially because he doesn't have to be since he's behind a defense that's solid in the air, but is a great shot stopper.

If you put Chesney in the Liverpool side, he wouldn't do so well. Carragher would knock him out in under 10 minutes for getting in his way at a cross he was dealing with. Likewise, put Reina in the Arsenal side and they'd concede more goals as he's not as aerially dominant, and the team require an aerial keeper.

To me, they're both good, and both exactly what their team needs, so I put them equal.

Chesney < Reina - One of the best keepers in the world over the past 5 years... against Szczesny
Sagna > Kelly - Sagna is top class and right now is better than Johnson, never mind Kelly
Vermaelen > Carragher - Very even. Two brilliant, committed defenders. I'd play both of them in an ideal world.
Mertesacker < Agger - Until Mertesacker proves to be more than very tall, Agger has to win. He's got class, skill, presence in both boxes. Poor injury record has stopped him from being one of the PL's best.
    Santos < Enrique - I'd agree.
Song < Lucas - I like Song but Lucas is playing out of his skin right now.
Arteta < Gerrard - This is Steven Gerrard we're talking about. Equal with... Arteta? Please. He's barely played for two years but when fit, he is a true dynamo (see Napoli 3-1, United 2-3 for his influence over the past year).
Wilshere > Henderson - Wilshere would play ahead of Adam, never mind Henderson.
Theo < Kuyt - Fair enough. For the record I think Theo has a lot of potential that seems like its gradually being delivered.
RvP = Suarez - Both top class.
Gervinho = Downing - For me, Gervinho might have a few tricks but I'm not too impressed yet. I was sceptical about Downing's signing, I'll admit, but his crossing, shooting and passing are all better than Gervinho.

It's all very well comparing players, but who has the better team? I would say us, but I really don't know how Arsenal's 'new look' team would do. And when you get all your players back from suspensions/injuries you do have a decent squad of players. As for Spurs' fans, I have no idea what they've been drinking. Someone must have spiked the water during the riots.

Reinas not commanding? You've obviously never really seen him play. He barks orders all day long at the defence, more so when carras not playing, and keeps their discipline and positioning during set pieces and open play. He is quite often our captain and will probably take the captaincy when Carra and Gerrard retire. Could you ever see chesney (sp) captaining arsenal?

Yes. Easily. He's a great organiser. By commanding I meant more along the lines of aerially dominant - commanding the penalty area. Will come for and claim crosses, catching them rather than punching them. As pointed out, he doesn't need to be so since he has Carragher and Agger in front of him who usually clear things up.

Opinion is obviously subjective, but I would say that Chesney is as good, or very nearly as good, as Reina.

I could definitely see szczesny being our captain. For his age he is sooo confident. Seems a great character too.

Yeah Suarez is excllent but ..Van Persie scored 22 goals in 26 starts last season

Still it's a shame Wenger did'nt go in for Suarez. An RVP Suraez combo would have been fantastic. I still think rvp's best role is as a second striker - like he plays for Holland.

Don't know how people are saying Chesney and Reina are equal. That's a laugh right?

Reina has been pretty consistantly in the top goalkeepers in the world for at least 6 years now, Chesney might have been pretty impressive this season, but you can't say he's in the European elite due to a few games. Last season he didn't show the quality needed to be in that catagory, he's developing it now but it's very optimistic to say so.

    That's bullshit.

  16. While Reina may have an edge on Chesney now I believe the gap is narrowing. Chesney has a belief and confidence that grows with each game. He could still pick up some tricks from a more experienced man but his abilities belie his age and experience. It wouldn't be long before they are on a par IMHO.

Mertesacker and Agger is an interesting comparison. Tough call for me so I'll see how their seasons pan out

    but it's

Walcott > Kuyt for my money given his goal scoring rate. If what he showed at the start of the last campaign could be held throughout the season, then I think there is no comparison.

By my reckoning, the quest for 3rd and 4th places is between Chelski, Pool and ourselves. If only Arsene were not hampered by his need to make the youth policy work before and now, by budgetary constraints.

Perhaps wait until May to make that assertion, early season predictions can be unreliable.

That's odd, because according to Utd fans beating them is also like winning a cup. So if we can beat you twice and Utd twice, at least we'll escape with 4 cups!
