Hello, team. Hope everyone well. One of my favourite races of the whole term tomorrow. The heat run in honour of the ‘Carry On’ films. Yes, that’s right, pilgrims, the Group 1 ‘Ooooooooooooooooooooh Matron Stakes’ at Leopardstown (5.25). There does though seem little point in me doing a preview as the event looks at the mercy of that wonderful, wonderful filly, Alpha Centauri. Should be another success at the old ‘top table’ for Lieutenant Henderson’s good pal, the first lady of horse racing, Mrs Harrington. God bless her and save her. The one that I will nominate, at that meeting, though is in the €150,000 13 Furlong Handicap (3.50). LIMINI is a top notcher in the NH sphere wining at the Cheltenham Festival in ’17 before coming back a year later and running a very close 3rd in the Grade 1 ‘Mares Hurdle’. Since that run her attentions have been switched to the level and she was placed twice in rich handicaps (both €100k races) at this year’s Galway Festival. I would expect her to come on a lot for those pair of outings (her first on the Flat for almost 4 years) and be in tip-top, I say tip-top, shape for this very valuable prize. The old girl has been raised 13lbs for those 2 efforts but I still think Limini doesn’t look harshly treated off a revised perch of 102 – a fact borne out by her being given Group entries including one on ‘British Champions Day’. The one negative though is that I’ve never heard of her trainer. However, and I do mean however, I note that he has won 2 out of the last 5 runnings of this race so obviously knows what is required. Good luck, all.
Just the one bet for me tomorrow and that's in the St Leger. Raymond Tusk 20/1. I was quite taken by his run last time out at Newbury in the Geoffrey Freer finishing 2nd to the impressive Hamada who is Melbourne Cup bound. Met some interference there too and didn't have the ideal passage and I recall reading horse was slightly under cooked for race. I think the trip will suit and providing horse settles has a big chance. Great jockey booking as well...just would prefer a bit more rain.. Not convinced Lar ti dah will stay and others have question marks on the trip. A lot to like in a nutshell and therefore I m on at 20's each way....
Not a great renewal - just one group 1 winner in the field. Ground riding soft with the threat of more rain to come. This puts me off Kew gardens and the other Gallelo's . Would you want to back Lah Ti Dar at 7/4? never run in group company, anybody's guess if it will stay. The one to be on is DEE EX BEE at 16/1 ew. This horse ran second in the Derby, looks sure to benefit for the step up in trip and, for the first time this year has the going that he needs, most of his wins have been with cut in the ground.
Has it rained there today? Going was 'Good' this morning...Have cashed in my bet365 bet and now on at 28s..much better...
Not going to oppose the captains selection and also have a feeling for maid up. Dark vision for me in the park and also Lancelot du lac at a price. Cheers.
Good luck with your desperate each way bets in the Leger fellas. The class act in the race is LAH TI DAR and will stay and win the race doing handstands!
The final 2018 British Classic contains a lot more imponderables than the betting would suggest. The going is reportedly Good with no rain in the local forecast so it will be fair to all. Whilst I wish Lord Lloyd Webber all the best with Lah Ti Dar – only one chance to win a Classic, so you may as well take it – she hardly comes here off the back of a normal preparation. I cannot recall any filly coming here having only won a fillies’ listed race. I expect the Yorkshire Oaks is probably a more regular route. Whilst she spread-eagled the opposition at York, I think her odds are cramped for a horse being backed on potential rather than form. The Ballydoyle contingent have followed much more standard paths to Town Moor and there is no stamina doubt with KEW GARDENS, winner of the Queen’s Vase and beaten under a penalty in the Great Voltigeur. I do have my doubts about Old Persian getting home but there is only one way to find out! Four of the field were behind him in the Voltigeur and Dee Ex Bee is held on a line through runner-up Cross Counter. Southern France was runner-up to Kew Gardens at Royal Ascot while Loxley is difficult to judge on his two wins at Deauville with no good form lines but he could be the fly in the ointment. Interesting that Latrobe has ducked the St Leger in favour of the Irish version on Sunday. Did father tip off son? Over at Leopardstown, half the field in the Irish Champion Stakes are from the Ballydoyle virtual Irish pattern race monopoly. Athena has won in the US and skips the Prix Vermeille to run here whilst the other filly Rhododendron has to put three disappointing efforts behind her. Deauville is surely here as a pacemaker for Saxon Warrior. The 2000 Guineas winner continues to find excuses for not winning and it is difficult to see why he should reverse York running with Roaring Lion. French raider Study Of Man disappointed in a Group 2 last time but cannot be entirely ruled out; however, it is hard to make a case for Addeybb, not seen since the Lockinge in May. The most interesting runner is Verbal Dexterity, well regarded over the winter on his juvenile form but not seen until three weeks ago.
From the start of the season I had The Pentagon earmarked for the Leger (I think I have him in the Almanac comp). So can't desert him here. Had an easy time when finishing in front of Old Persian over inadequate distance and considering he should come on for his York run and will appreciate the extra distance he looks over-priced to me at 33/1 with WH (Old Persian is 8/1 joint 3rd fav and not guaranteed to stay). I would be fairly confident that The Pentagon will finish in front of Old Persian. Worth a dabble ew at 33/1 surely
The right hand side of my desktop. Looks like a lot going on this Saturday. Better go to bed and get some rest
I,m with you on the pentagon way overpriced ... his run in the irish derby was not poor at all in retrospect . THE PENTAGON for me 25-1 all day .
Adding to my st leger bet: Leopardstown 6.35pm Saxon Warrior 10/3 ...let me down last time..hopefully turns up this time..fancy him to get the better of roaring lion..
Thats why I put it up there mate. Confident in the extreme. If it loses...."mock away".........it wont!
I also like ASTRONOMER 3:50 Leop. Cannot see the penalty stopping this one, group horse still in handicaps.
With one eye on the upcoming National Hunt season, the 2.20 at Listowel looks an absolute belter of a maiden hurdle. Willie Mullins throws 2 arrows - firstly, German-bred Aramon who is the short-priced favourite after an 8L debut success at Kilbeggan when giving weight all round. The second that day, Gordon Elliot's Global Jackpot, has franked the form by winning his next 2 races. Mullins other runner is Eglantine Du Seuil who won a bumper in France before scoring for Closutton on yard debut at Sligo. Gordon Elliot runs the slowly-improving Silver Star who finally got off the mark last time out after having previously placed against some decent sorts. Joseph O'Brien has one of Dad's cast-offs in Triplicate, who won a maiden hurdle at the Galway Festival (2nd has since won on the flat) while Charles Byrnes runs the Vinnie Roe filly, Mary B, who has some very respectable bumper form in the book. The sextet is completed by Indian Air who looks well and truly held by these. AT the moment all the blue on oddschecker is for the apparent Mullins second string, Eglantine Du Seuil who was available at around 7/2 (some 4/1) yesterday evening but is now a general 11/4 shot. This ought to be a 1-2 for Mullins but I've no idea in which order. One to watch with the old notebook out
I like your confidence Stickler...not for me at that price...pretty inexperienced too and not certain to stay...
