I'm visiting the UK from the US and am planning on attending the Hornets Match on October 27. Was wondering if there are any fun gameday activities or anything that anyone could suggest (attraction, events, food, drink) for our day on Watford, Thanks

    Welcome!

Not a lot doing in Watford really, depending on your preferences. If you're only in town for the day then the museum is one place to start. The market and town centre offer an underrated array of cuisine from Japanese to German, Brazillian to Korean, Vietnamese to, well, French I suppose. For a longer stay there's Harry Potter World and there's a few nightclubs in the town, they do attract people from all over.

Watford is a good out of town base for London and has excellent links to the rest of the country. Do your research and choose your hotel wisely... the Watford Hilton is miles out of town and in the middle of nowhere, relatively speaking.

If you're coming in from London for the day just for the match, then go to The Flag adjacent to Watford Junction, they serve a decent pint, as do the Nascot Arms (and decent Thai food), also the Wellington. All three pubs within 5-10 minutes walk of each other, The Nas being the furthest from the ground, the walk from there to the Wellie taking you back past the Flag and in the right direction for the ground - allow another 20 minutes. The Red Lion opposite the ground is worth a visit and if you're in the UGT stand then the Tring Brewery Bar is an oasis of quality.

Whatever you do, enjoy the day.... your chosen fixture has seen plenty of goals over recent seasons.

Don't they have a fun zone a couple of hours before kick off now, just outside the Hornet shop? I'm sure they have done it for a couple of games now but not sure if they will do it for every match

As mentioned, not too sure there is much else to do. If you have time, can always do the Harry Potter studio tour before the match, but would have to get an early ticket (like 9am) to be able to get back in time for a 3pm kick off as it 's a good few hours to do the tour.

You have Woodside Leisure Park for bowling and the cinema but a bit out of town so probably need to be driving.

Otherwise may have to be a case of coming into London... or wondering around the shopping mall (which is partly under construction).

Are there any churches with crooked spires in Watford? If not then Salisbury is not too far away.

I thought it was Chesterfield with the crooked spire?

Salisbury's cathedral has the tallest spire...

Cologne said it is most unfair to joke about these poor lost Russians. They travelled all that way and still failed to find the Cathedral and Stonehenge. :emoticon-0105-wink:

How about half a day in St Albans, just up the road. Roman remains, Abbey and usually a market as well as being a much nicer town than Watford.

They might have to play Russian roulette to decide, poor things. Anyway with their dreadful acting a trip to a Siberian labour camp could be their next vacation.

    Scully, it's a city, not a town.

As Fez has said there is a lot of choice of international food in the High Street but, be warned, there is a curfew on all people aged over 35 after about 8pm ! There is a lot of action in the town, which you can see by the numbers of teenagers pushing prams around by day. Easily the best place for a knees up is the William Morris Labour Club in South Oxhey - don't believe anything which SH. says to the contrary ! There are some weekend events there and, if not, there maybe something going on at the Watford Trade Unionist & Labour Club in Woodford Road - don't worry if it's closed The Flag pub is nearby and, as Fez said, offers a good pint. <cheers>

You could try the Momentum back to the 70's, Red Star club. Cheap beer subsidised by the Kremlin. Soon to have one in every town. :emoticon-0101-sadsm
