Had a little experiment the last couple of days. Went without my replacing my pain patch to see if I still need it.

    I do. :emoticon-0106-cryin:emoticon-0106-cryin:emoticon-0106-cryin<wah><wah><wah>

Means I've got to wait a few months more before I can have a beer. :(

Just watched Sicario 2 Day of the Soldado.

V, good film. Del Toro and Brolin on top form.

Finding sleep a bit difficult .. bit of a traumatic day ... lost my cousin to cancer ... she's was 3 weeks younger than me ...

If there is a God ... him and me are going to have a bit of a heated debate in due course ...

Been watching just about every version of Comfortably Numb I could find on YouTube having necked a couple of bottles of red wine ... reflects my current state ...

Tomorrow we drive down to South Wales again to visit my terminally ill mother-in-law who has a growing double aneurysm on the brain that will take her soon ...

Probably regret posting this come tomorrow but right now I literally am 'comfortably numb' ...

Take the time out to tell your loved ones how you feel about them because life really is way too short <smooch>

You're going to have to find some strength from somewhere Fosse. Your wife's going to need you to be a rock for her very soon mate.

You take care Fosse! For yourself and your family.

Depends what you drink mate, and that’s part of the problem as people don’t tend to know what constitutes a unit.

A pint of 5% lager, so Stella, Peroni etc is 2.8 units a pint, so 100 units = about 35 pints a week.

A 4% lager would be about 2.3 units, so 100 units = about 43 pints

How does that equate into spirits?

All alcoholics i have known have been spirit/wine drinkers, obviously beer might have led them on that road but i never saw that early part of the cycle.

I love spirits but have them on a rare ocassion, i tend to stick to beer, afterall it's either going to bloat you or you are going to be pissing the stuff back out all night.

If i switch from beer to spirits during the night, then the party ain't going to stop, if i stick with beer then the party will end a reasonable time.

Just my form of control really, especially having known people that can't control it, and personally i don't like seeing an alcoholic, especially someone i know - it's always good to take the lesson from what ive seen, it makes me think before opening the spirit bottle, except for the ocassional and very rare binge or as treat....and another treat....and another lol

Spirits are 1.4 units per 35ml, so a 750ml bottle would equate to about 30 units by my maths.

Spirits after ale never generally ended well for me when I was a more enthusiastic drinker either. I’ve always liked a nice single malt and if I started by drinking single malt it was fine as I’d only have 2 or 3 tops, but if the spirits came out at the end of a night different story. In my youth it was fun, but as I got older I too moderated myself in the same way. I think it’s maybe about remembering the hangovers lol, your body ‘having a word’ as the bottle comes out the cupboard.

A guy I know here is now off it for at least 12 months.

He was a regular gym goer, but thought that gave him licence to neck as much San Miguel as he liked. He was doing easy 8 pints per day and a few glasses of vino on top.

His liver disagreed with his theory and the Doc told him that if he didn’t knock it on the head he’d be dead within 6 months,
