Now that the Mexican forward's move to Spain has failed to materialise and it appears that he may be issued with a new squad number (TBC on OS), do you think that he'll actually be given a chance to play or possibly farmed out on loan somewhere? Those that get on the wrong side of Redknapp rarely seem to get back into his good books, but it's clear from his international displays that the diminutive attacker has a lot of talent.
I agree, as I put earlier, on another thread. Harry has got this wrong, IMO. The guy needs some guidance, encouragement, and generally pointing in the right direction. As I also said before, Fergie, not known for his patience, persisted with Nani, and was well rewarded. Harry should try the same with GDS. If he fails to respond, then yes, he'll have to go. But I don't believe Harry has given him anywhere near enough time and patience.
I doubt Gio will feature, which is a shame as he is a real talent. This is one of Redknapp`s failings as a manager, talented players are left to rot while he persists with awful footballers such as Crouch.
It's probably one of the only things Harry has got really wrong with the way Dos Santos has been utilised. Let's not forget this guy was once regarded as the new Ronaldinho at the time and even managed to oust the man himself in Barca's starting line up for a while (albeit Ronaldinho suffered with a lack of form prior to it). His displays in the world cup showed he's definitely got that raw talent... He needs to be given a chance as otherwise he could be a player that could haunt us in the future if we get rid. Plus on Lennon's current form, where's the harm in trying him out for a game or two.
He's clearly a lot more effective than Lennon, at both creating and scoring goals. Why can't old droopy-face see it?!
Because Lennon works far harder than Dos Santos and trains properly, probably. I'd still love to see him given a chance in the Europa League, though. Go with a 4-2-3-1, with him on the right in front of Walker. Potentially very dangerous.
I think HR's ability to motivate good professionals is perfectly fine, but he struggles when they don't respond to his methods. It seems once this happens, you are pretty much stuffed. GDS is a good footballer and could be an exceptional one. Nobody gets through the Barca academy by being average. We need to do everything we can to tap into that talent, even if it's so we can get him in the shop window to move on. You would think that with the army of "coaches" we have, at least one could get inside this young man's head!
He was loaned out all over the place. Scored the final goal in Mexico's Gold Cup Final win over the USA recently. <excuseforpostingridiculousgoalsmiley>
I'm not sure if it's a case of not being able to get inside his head, or not bothering to try to get inside his head. As I said earlier, IMO, he needs a little time, patience, and guidance - assuming the will is there to give it to him. Unfortunately, as has been said, once Harry has a downer on you.... The Lad is obviously talented, and should be persisted with, to see if he will respond positively.
What is his supposed mental/attitude problem anyway? Is this still related to that bird he had a while back? I don't remember him and Redknapp falling out, last I remember was him having a stormer in the league cup and then getting injured...
Dos Santos has suggested that he worked hard at the start of last season and was still overlooked, but he was misused in the dire Carling Cup loss to Arsenal, which won't have helped him. With our squad stretched the way it is now though, he may get his chance in a cup or two.
I have posted this about Dos Santos(TBC) on another thread and i think we really have to atleast give him time in the cup games or we are painfully short up front. If we are not using him why didn´t we sell him as i know atleast 2 Spanish clubs were interested and he also loves playing in Spain.
By the whispers, neither club in Spain met our valuation - the club that did (Italian) GDS said no to. So we're stuck with him, he's stuck with us - and time will tell if he gets a game or even a squad no....
With the squad reduced in size, I think this is his chance to shine. We need him more than ever, he's our only back up to Lennon and if we get a front line injury he may be asked to fill in. He needs to push on with his career, he should get more opportunities here now so if he performs and shows everybody his talent and more importantly dedication he can get a move if he wishes. People will offer good money for a Gio in form.
Great goal, but can someone tell me what the fuk the yank in the No.13 shirt was doing! ...Gio would never have got the opportunity for that in the PL!
