Also, I would rather we had a couple of seasons being frugal, finishing mid-table and then being able to build a new stadium in 5 years time to help us move forward, than remain a perpetual Europa League team which spends all of the money it comes by on good but not brilliant players every year. We need to have some patience with Levy and co and accept that there is a long term plan.
Yes, he did. When was the last time that we even had a youth defender do that? You're right about the Bassong move. Corluka at centre-half with Walker at right-back? Actually sorting our transfers out before the last minute?
When was the last time King did more to the point!!! only joking... Think Walker was still suffering from the virus that took him off at half-time in the Red Manc game. as far as transfers go, bloody spot on
You're probably right about King and Walker, despite the former being half in jest. Risky having him and Gallas in the squad.
Well, someone had to go, I guess. Stoke have taken a similar risk with Woodgate and Upson, though I guess that they've still got Shawcross and Huth if they both end up crocked.
That's business. A lot try it, especially the ones with the money. Well he did kick up enough of a stink, just fell short of handing in a transfer request imo. Interesting stat about Modric and the points! Should have cashed in.
Speaking of Centre halves - I'm personally amazed that when it became obvious the Toffees needed a cash injection we didn't say - £10m + Bassong for Jags, and that way you get to keep Arteta.... could've been a good idea for a plan B when Cahill went south IMHO
That's what West Ham do and look how that worked out. Very true and it might have been a workable idea if we hadn't have decided to keep SSN interesting on deadline day, as usual.
Thats 4, yet we have 5 and are still worried! With the injury situation would it have been terrible to have Daws and Seb at the back, with Kaboul sitting in front? One drawback I see is YK's urge to get forward, does he have the discipline to just sit back.
Actually, I think this is Levy reining in his spending, When you think about the amount that has been spent on the squad by levy in the last few years, for the return of one season in the champions league, the sums start not to add up.
I've already pointed out to you why that would be wrong, IZWT. If we replace Modric, then by the time his replacement has settled in and proved himself, then the same teams would try and buy him. They'd have another year or two's Champions League cash to do it with, too.
losing Modric wasn't the answer this season. 2012-13 - who knows, it depends on where we are, who is in charge and what DL has up his sleeve in terms of funding that hasn't been made available to Harry
No, not in my opinion, in my experience. It happened with Sheringham, Carrick, Berbatov and Keane, for example.
Player trading was mainly responsible for a small deficit on our last accounts, this window needed to correct that, be interesting to see how the CL money got accounted for, or if its still sitting there...do we know?!
