Lee Johnson reveals how he has got his Bristol City side peaking ahead of Sheffield United The secret to the Robins position in the table Bristol City are defying their critics and the odds once again in the early part of this season. Despite losing their three best players in top scorer Bobby Reid (Cardiff City), star left back Joe Bryan (Fulham) and towering centre back Aden Flint (Middlesbrough); Lee Johnson's side sit sixth in Championship table with three wins, two draws and just the single defeat. Speaking as a guest on BBC Radio Bristol's Sound of the City show last night, the Robins head coach explained why things have started to brightly and why there is reason for opitmisum. He said: "I think the most pleasing aspect is the improvement of the side. We are a new side. We have a lot of new players and some big players lost. "We have only had 35 training days because a lot of days are about rest, recovery and games, so it is important that in those 35 days we absolutely nail it so we have total clarity as to what we are after. "I think our performances have been steadily improving. "Obviously we have got stronger with signings and players back from injury, but like I say the new players have gelled well, both on a personal level and on a football level." Johnson puts the impressive integration of players like the Championship's joint top scorer Andreas Weimann down to their team building trip to Marbella in pre-season. He said: “The trip away is big for that. When you live in each other’s pockets for a week, people can let their hair down a little bit. "You want to try and tick the boxes without any arrests or lads ending up in hospital," he joked. "We had a comical karaoke night which was good for team bonding, a couple of quizzes and of course some hard work." A personal rendition of All Night Long by Lionel Richie from the head coach set the tone. However what Johnson needs to discover is how to get the best out of his side all season long after a poor second half to 2017/18. He added: "We try and sign good personalities as well and I think that helps.” "When the lads that have been here a long time see somebody coming in, it is important the new lads integrate into the culture." https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/lee-johnson-reveals-how-bristol-1991222
sounds like they were allowed to go on the …. a bit when in Marbella ref to the slower to comprehend! cricket, say no more ………………..
One of the benefits of having young coaching staff, it's not so much "them and us". Sounds like the team building has gone well, not sure LJ's rendition of All Night Long will get into the top 10 pop charts!! I know it's early days of this season, but I'm quite happy of how it's all going.............could be worse!!
We all know LJ is a work in progress, his team is a work in progress, me personally, he could become a very good coach, top notch,, only time will tell, young English coaches are few and far between, I think we have one of the best, I wish him and our team all the best.
Don't give up your day job Lee because the team looks pretty good, and I've never been a Lionel Ritchie fan.
The wonders of modern technology , I’m at present sat beside a pool in Crete reading about the going’s on in good old Blighty. It seems to be working at the moment whatever it is Lee’s doing. Let’s hope it continues. The next few games come thick and fast, Lee said he already has the players worked out for the next two , and intimated the would beam element of rotation , it will be interesting to see the team for Saturday, I won’t be there, which seems to be a good omen, they usually do well when I miss there home games , let’s hope the trend continues as It’s going to be a tough game against an in form team.
