The player appeared in court in July alongside his older cousin, who is also accused of rape. The player's lawyer, Remy Nougier, told Agence France-Presse that his client "vigorously denies the girl's claims," per the Mirror. A trial is set to take place in Nimes, France. The player's identity has not been revealed, but he is not believed to be French and is said to now be 23 and currently playing in the Premier League. The girl was found in a distressed condition and reported that she had been sexually assaulted by two foreigners who knew she was underage. The player initially denied having sexual intercourse with the girl, before later informing authorities he had consensual sex with her. The player's cousin, who is now 25, also said the sex was consensual and told police he and his cousin were unaware that the girl was underage

There are loads of players who play as squad members or in U23 squad that people will barely have heard of before. Then of course there are the players who you didn't realise had played in certain countries (France in this case) in the past because they came from another, or only played at youth level in said country (ie France) Try narrowing it down now
he was in court on July so is not part of French squad. 5 years ago he was in France. like... tbh I've not gone and tried on either this case or last one with the model as its just not worth the effort.
Indeed, it's not that it's happening more but it's being reported more now and, more importantly, being heard. It was reported during the Benzema/Ribery story that the age of consent in France is 15, so it's a little confusing that there's the rape and underage accusations. The former is obviously harder to prove, especially when the accused both later admit there was sex they claim was consensual. That makes it sound suspiciously like they've been "legally advised" to put forward that defence.
