The consistancy of Asda's own brand yeast extract makes it much easier to spread than Marmite, which is stickier and tends to drip a lot, the taste of it is exactly the same (and it is cheaper of course!).

Is it my imagination or does marmite evaporate once opened?
The level always seems to drop quicker than I actually consume it.
Maybe my wife has become a secret convert and is wolfing it down whilst I am at work.

My two dogs have between them 4 chickens a week. Chihuahuas too so they aren’t that large. No wonder they are good at running and dribbling :)

Lol brother were you shopping with me yesterday? I was in Tesco, saw the low salt version and also thought about buying the Tesco own for a test. #seperatedatbirth

I've tried some of that Marmot everyone's been going on about. Bit of an aquired taste if you ask me.

You should have seen the mess when I tried to spread it on a piece of toast.

I hope that you will follow the full scientific process and do a blind test. Also, you will need to involve your family as we need a larger sample size of one.

I will get some later too to compare results. I’ll be blind testing on Danish white and Nimble.

Exhibit 1: plain toast. Both slices evenly toasted

    BEC73BA3-5427-47BE-A416-01D4E848CFD3.jpeg

Exhibit 2: even amount of butter on both slices so as not to affect the taste

    E260177C-C2FA-4498-AD1C-C8625EF9378E.jpeg

Exhibit 3: both slices evenly spread with Tesco’s own and Original Marmite.

    Test 1: colour
You can see that the slice on the left is a darker shade, almost Bovril like.

    4B8D4BFA-06B3-4A71-A924-C5A758EE1BF0.jpeg

    Test 2: spreadability
The Tesco version has less viscosity

Exhibits 4 and 5: slices were cut into different shapes to ensure that no influence on the flavour came from the shape of the toast. Cheese connoisseurs will know that the shape or how a good is cut, can have a large influence on the enjoyment of said article. ( @Onionman )

    C659A90A-9E60-48EA-8DC9-3AF09899AF9B.jpeg

Final exhibit: both slices were tested without crust, so as not to allow one to benefit from the crunchier sensation

    4822AF8B-0B8B-46E1-9A8E-4AC0E4F338BD.jpeg

    Results:
The Tesco only version is not a bad replica, however it doesn’t quite reach the intensity or depth of failure of Marmite. It does have a slight look and taste of bovril. It is 70p cheaper and I think a reasonable alternative.
I will finish the jar and see if I miss the full flavour of Marmite.
I don’t think many would notice too much of a difference.
