I think we deserved a draw. Rashford wasted two very good opportunities to complete a hat trick, first heading then shooting straight at De Gea instead of trying to miss him. And as for the disallowed goal. More goal keeper mollycoddling. Spain had good periods of control and possession but then so did we. Superb ball by Shaw for our goal, something that Ashley Young could never have provided by virtue of being right footed, proving imo that if you want players to provide width they should play on the correct side of the pitch to enable them to hit crosses with their strongest foot. Both Spain’s goals, I felt, came as a result of both full backs diving into tackles they shouldn’t have. If they had both jockeyed the player on the ball, the opportunity to get the ball into the danger area could have been prevented, although it has to be said that we defended the free kick for the second goal abysmally.
I don´t mind if it conserves space, and the reaction to this tournament seems lukewarm to say the least.
Bertrand must have really pissed off Southgate as he was first choice through WC Qualification and now at least fourth choice. What the hell did he do?
He fell below his usual excellent standard for most of last season, Southgate must've noticed that when he watched him. Bertie looks much more like his normal self and I reckon he will be back in the England fold sometime during the season, there aren't any LBs better when he is on form IMO.
Remember it is at Leicester so it is a reasonable choice to pick a number of LCFC players in order to pull in the punters Imagine the reaction if it was a couple of Derby Country or Forest players called up instead?
Wasn't Southgate banging on about youth as well? Preparing for next Euros and World Cup. Bertrand will be almost 31 when the Euros start and 33 for the World Cup. There are a few young LBs coming through so makes sense to use them.
