Bit of a chicken and egg situation over in the US of A. Left-wing or liberal politics were as a result of decades of right-wing oppression but successes in civil rights, gay rights, women's rights etc just made the hard-liners even more red necked than before. Both sides use the First Amendment right to free speech to tell the others they can't say stuff.

Trump just kept on saying controversial sh.it which none of the other Republican candidates could counter effectively until it got to the stage where he was the only one saying anything different and got the nod for POTUS.

Anyone opposing his views is deemed a Commie, anyone supporting him is a Fascist, hardly any sensible middle ground is being looked for and it is only comedians satirizing the situation who make much sense.
