If he gets it for September as well, then they really will have to take notice of us They tried televising all our games, that didn't work (so far) Next we will get praise from Gary Bellend, if that doesn't jinx us they will have to invent a new set of referee instructions
On a more serious note it is a massive accolade for the club and demonstrates how much of an impact the Pozzo's have had on our club We are now in a position to become top ten or even top six contenders We now need some home grown (English/British) players in the first team and be a club than can attract the best youngsters to our Academy
We did have a decent number of home grown on the pitch Sunday. Foster, Hughes, Deeney and Grey all started, with Chalobah and Marriappa making cameo appearances.
Gracias a Gracia. He is very humble and giving credit to everyone, which makes sense really! Also, in the picture, I can see PeƱaranda Has anyone heard if he has his visa yet?
OFH only Mariappa was from our academy, and that was the point, most of the recent debutants have forged careers in the lower divisions Cathcart was also home grown I am more than pleased that the core of our team are home grown but in order to grow we need batches of players like in the early eighties to come through the ranks and make an impact on the first team squad We will always need the extra flair from overseas players to improve the squad but for us and the home country international teams the Premier League needs more academy players to progress to the first team squads
I think that the situation we see now is another consequence of the money that has come into the PL.At one time clubs relied on youngsters coming through the system, showing they could play a bit, then sold to pay a few bills. Now young players are bought at an early age if they show some promise, maybe join a large pool of those of a similar age, and spend several seasons out on loan. We cannot overlook the fact that a tiny proportion of young players, no matter which country they live in, will ever make it to the top.
