I know we have the welcome thread for newcomers but perhaps a far simpler title may entice more new faces to post for the first time, we need new blood as the air is very stale in here! In the last week or so I have tried to create debate but the atmosphere is shall we say poor. Perhaps simple things like starting over in the Nest like we did on 606, leave it for so long and start again it worked perfectly well on 606. There are far fewer supporters from other teams as well, it has not got the same feel about the place all in all much like a boring members bar/club. This forum is open to all WFC supporters and visitors sadly not so much of the latter. It is up to those who have not posted yet to make themsleves known we need fresh blood in here and perhaps a lick of paint, move the dart board turn the juke box up, flat screen TV's here and there and open the windows fresh air and perhaps fresh ideas from new posters!

I think this site has its shortfalls but so did 606.

When I log in I look down the list of Watford articles for anything new, including new signings or injuries or whatever. The News Thread gets clogged up with comment, on and off topic (which is only natural - people chat) and is not easy to surf.

I would lose all 'stickies' - if the article is of interest it will survive - if not then let it go. Why does the Nest need to be sticky? Why does SLB's stuff need to be sticky? Keep it simple. Get the welcome thread to be just that, not a long conversation about how to welcome people. Make that our only sticky, then it is at the top and seen to newcomers as what is valued most - their input.

I think the moderation might be better with a lower profile TBH. What does it matter if two threads are on the same subject? Generally one is used the other dies out. For the news-surfer the point about who has signed is there, not hidden in a News Thread between the inevitable chat.

Yorkshirehornet's comment about the thread staying at the top (with the latest comments underneath as it was on 606) is the best format. That would stop the chat veering off too much and might encourage the veerers (Veras?) to start a new thread for their veering. The Nest is a good place to keep the day-to-day chatting (or at least the majority of it) away from the threads.

And 606 was death in the closed season, this has kept ticking over which is a reason to commend it.

I think the site in general is very good but I have felt in the past that their are some cliques that make you feel your not always part of the group, I have on occasions posted comments that have been ignored whilst a conversation between 2 or 3 more experienced posters has continued, when this happens it makes you less likely to post in the future as you can start to feel that unless your part of the "main group" your not always going to be heard.
I have a young family and very busy job where I cannot always be on the site, that does not mean I am not looking and keeping up to date with what the oppinions are, I personally like it when people have differences of oppinions and a debate gets going, that has gone far to far on the WOB site and I have not posted on their for over a year now due to that, the last thing I would like to see is the moron WUMMERS from that site on here.
I think we should all try to make the effort to post a thread and then the others should try and give good constructive debate, as long as there is no personal attacks for having a difference of oppinion then I will carry on using Not606.....

Good posts andy and Elton's. I think that for all of us there are time contraints and when we do have a few minutes there is not always something going on that we feel we can contribute to. I have felt that sometimes a thread has been kept alive although there is very little to say on the matter. When that happens, in my opinion the quality decreases and we can quickly get into the silly season.

Good points well made ET - when you post frequently as I used to, you do tend to look for the other frequent posters and respond to them - but as you say that can leave others left out - now that I post less frequently I try to find comments that I want to respond to and more often than not these can come from people like yourself who only post when they have something to say.

Never thought I would say this but I am glad in a way that my work PC does not allow me to comment on this forum. Hopefully now the season is underway we can get back to discussing football matters, I have been guilty in the past of posting just for the sake of it, lots of Lol's and Mwaahs and smiley faces, time to take a step back read the new posts and only add if it is in line with what is being discussed no diversifying!

That is just my view and hopefully I can stand by it!

Well I am glad that I started this thread now. I thought it was just me that felt there was too many lol's and smileys that dilute the thread. I personally feel conversations that have nothing to do with a thread should try to be kept in the Nest.

I also agree that the sticky's are pointless. The Nest doesn't need to be a sticky as people will always comment on it so it will come back to the top.

And Elton, I have also commented in the middle of a conversation and had my post ignored. Makes me feel like my point was not worth posting.

    What an interesting thread!

I think most of what I believe has been said really. We seem to spend too much time wondering how to run this thing, it strikes me. Wasn't that the problem with the BBC? That it was over-managed? I thought BBC606 was, on the whole, well-moderated, but I know I'm fairly alone in that thought.

I don't have time to post as much as a I used to a few years ago, but I would say that I often read but don't comment on what people have written. So I would say to all users that even if you don't have a direct reply, continue to make the effort, because your writings are read my many. Just look at the 'Views' stat on each thread.

The big danger with any forum is that it becomes cliquey and I have tried to make as much effort as possible to welcome people to BBC606 and now not606. I don't have the time I did, but it is the only way this forum will stay fresh - it does not have the passing traffic as the BBC had in the way of the links from sports articles.

The question for me is, if the Beeb started up again tomorrow, would I stay here? I know what the answer to that is and I think it is the job of Maltese Mick, the moderators and the ideas people to change that...

I'm one of the new additions to the site, although I was a lurker for a long time on 606. I also don't get to view this site that often and time is a constraint (although I think someone mention an App for this site, I'll have to look into that).

I also never really got into the nest culture, so as a newby today they might look at the nest sticky and see 726 pages and think WTF! It certainly has put me off trolling through or even looking at it. However if it is there for general banter/conversation then I wish people would use it rather than railroading the subject threads and filling them with LOL's and <ok>

Also I agree with BHD that some responses are general common courtesy, which in life I approve of, but in a thread forum this can bog down the article, and when you see topic that interests you and then there are already multiple pages, it can be annoying when a lot of the posts are courtesy agreements, as you have to troll through to get the true opinion and hopefully a constructive reply. Perhaps if people do like the thread and agree with it we should use the Rate Thread more. (yes I'm guilty of not using it!)

That was the whole reason for me starting the thread asking where people want news. I was trying to make the point that people can post where they want to and that even if the news is posted in the news thread a separate thread is a good idea to keep the news thread clean.

I think the issue is we have lots of different views on the matter. Some would rather not have the off-topic chatter in the nest, but others like you and I think that the nest should be for off topic. The lols and smileys will be a part of the general conversation. I know the nest will be at the top 90% of the time, but its just easier to have it there. I wont say any more for fear of being too involved!!

I am sorry if i have played any part in that ET. I know i try to respond to most posts especially those made on a thread i start. Even if it is just a simple good point or one liner. I think its basic manners and does show you are listening (or in this case reading). I will double my efforts in future. The only issue is then the thread becomes diluted, but i would like to leave it as it is.

I am seeing that there are several views on here, but it would seen that people dont want threads to be clogged up with rubbish which could really be discussed in the nest. I think its best if we all treat it as a pub where we can discuss what we like with out affecting everyone else and taking threads off-topic.

I think we should all shut up and post what we want where we want when we want and if anyone does not like it they can live with it. We do not need anyone to tell us what to do and censorship is always the worst solution

That suits me!! I will be having long "luvie" conversations with people in the nest if i like and i will post a thread on news if i like. If people dont like it they dont have to read it to be blunt.

Dan, let it go. This conversation has outlived it's usefulness. Just my opinion of course. ;)

I just want to know why there is a sudden change of heart if this whole episode could have been prevented.

I'm not being 'holier than thou' ladies and gents but is there a certain irony in sniping back and forth, and then wondering why Newbies aren't posting?
