I'm not looking for universal approval, OBVIOUSLY, but if the two choices are

1 - Pay them for doing nowt
    OR
2- Put them to working for their money

    I can be pragmatic<whistle>

Which is miles away from saying I like it.:headbang:

That's not the only two choices. theres the 3rd of you're not getting paid, you've already breached contract and were going to sue you for intentionally lowering your own value so do as you pissing well please so long as you stay away from the squad. Sounds like were going with phantom option three

    Here we go. Option 3.

NEWS: AWOL Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji has finally turned up for training - 72 days late

    6

Papy Djilobodji has finally reported to the Academy of Light this morning, 72 days since he was supposed to turn up for pre-season training at the end of June.

Finally, after 72 days of waiting, Papy Djilobodji has put an end to his self-imposed exile from the club and has turned up at Sunderland’s Academy of Light this morning.
The club received notification on Sunday from the player’s representatives that Djilobodji would report for training on Monday, something which never materialised.
Some supporters in attendance at yesterday evening’s game between Sunderland and Stoke U21s claimed that Djilobodji was in attendance, watching on from one of the corporate boxes at the back of the South West corner, but that has not yet been verified.
The 29-year old failed to turn up for the first day of pre-season back in June and hasn’t been seen on Wearside at all over the summer, but having failed to get a deal over the line at a new club during the transfer window he’s eventually turned up in an attempt to, presumably, earn himself an honest *cough* wage.

During his period of exile the club have withheld the player’s salary payments due to the 29-year-old’s non-appearance but, now he is returning to training, the club are taking legal advice and plan to sue Djilobodji for breach of contract as he has directly reduced his value to the club.
Sunderland paid Chelsea £8m for his services under then manager David Moyes and clearly have no chance of getting a return on that investment.
He attracted interest from the likes of Trabzonspor and Hannover 96 during the transfer window but both moves fell through, with the demands of both the player and his representitives judged to be too high for the buying clubs.
Although he will be allowed to return to training as he’s still under contract to the club, Djilobodji will not be allowed to train with the first-team and, while the current owners are in charge, he will never play in the red and white stripes of Sunderland again.
While the club explore legal action against the player, we understand that the club are looking to withhold his salary until all legal avenues are exhausted.
The Senegal international still has two years left on his deal, which runs until the end of the 2019/20 season.

    Well that's clear enough <ok>

You'd think that sticking a clause into a contract about doing anything to affect the financial or material value to the club would be obvious though wouldn't you?

Depends on legalities doesn't it. You can put anything in a contract but it doesn't make it legally binding. I couldn't possibly say what you can and can't do with fine details like that. But there been plenty of public incidents where we've botched contracts so god knows.

I'm very hazy on the detail, but didn't Chelsea have a player who got himself a long ban for social drugs use and, after sacking him, eventually, Chelsea were able to sue him for the amount of his transfer fee.

I believe that Chelsea won in the Court though weather they got the money I have no idea.
Also I have no idea how relevant this might be except to show that suing a player who has misbehaved has worked in the past.

That's true although I'd have thought putting it into a legal contract if reasonable, would be legally binding.

Good job I didn't go to law school. My sense of fair play would have failed me every term! <laugh>

. If Stewart sticks to his guns this could be a defining moment in football history like the Bosman rule could get rid of all the parasites eventually

Sunderland midfielder Dider Ndong is still yet to return to the Stadium of Light - but has dropped a hint regarding his current whereabouts. The midfielder - who remains the Black Cats' record signing, took to Instagram to post a poolside picture as he refuses to return to Wearside.

Ndong's snap comes on the same day that fellow wantaway Papy Djilobodji returned to the club, with executive director Charlie Methven confirming that legal options were being explored.

Sunderland are continuing to withhold Ndong's wages until such a time as he returns to the club, but the midfielder seems to be in no rush to make the trip back to the North East after this poolside view was posted.

The image understandably angered Sunderland fans, who were quick to take to social media to air their views on the midfielder's social media post.

Here's a selection of reaction from the Black Cats' fans:

@son_wear said: "He’s a disgrace to his profession. Unprofessional , disrespectful & arrogant ...surely this is tantamount to gross misconduct?"

"Going to make an Instagram account just so I can tell him what I think of him", added @MaddisonGraham

@safc_lex tweeted: "Absolutely scandalous. Unprofessional and antagonistic! Get out of our club"

    "Didier Ndong’s Instagram story. I don’t think that’s Seaburn...," joked @JamesCopley73.

Some were glad to see Ndong far away, however, with @pauljacques83 posting: "It will [anger some people], but I think a lot will be glad he isn't coming back and trying to get is unearned wages."

And @Bunney_91 echoed his views, adding: "Not really actually, further away the better in my eyes."

@pauloleary88 thought the trip looked far from luxurious, saying: "For a footballer, that looks like a very underwhelming holiday!"

I think all of football will be watching how this one plays out. I hope Stewie goes all the way on this even if it ends up in court. Unbelievable as a club that we have had Rodwell, N'Dong and Papy to sort out......recruitment at it's finest....

Can't even afford somewhere where the tiles line up. Seriously though it does look like he's on a budget not exactly five star luxury there.

The Diddy Dong & Poopy Djil can both just **** right off. If we can afford it, pay them to train on their own and see how long it takes them to work out that their greedy **** agents have just taken a 15-inch strapon to their respective careers' arseholes...
