Doubt anyone really cares about these but they are happening with a UEFA Nations League tournment game vs Spain on 8th Sept followed by a normal friendly vs the Swiss in my neck of the woods. Would be a good chance for Southgate to tweak his squad and try new players, especially up front since Vardy has retired but nope, he has picked the usual suspects. Also Adam Lallana has withdrawn from the squad because of "injury" so Southgate has decided to replace him with a 4th keeper https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45413352 - can someone please explain the logic of that to me? Revised England squad Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Alex McCarthy (Southampton), Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham) Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Harry Maguire (Leicester City) Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), James Tarkowski (Burnley), Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur), Kyle Walker (Manchester City) Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea) Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal)
Swiss game definitely is which is why it is being held in Leicester rather then Wembley because the FA have got embarrassed by the shots of the half filled Wembley so are taking England on tour to hopefully drum up interest. As for the Spain game - the UEFA Nations League tournament is something cooked up by UEFA to make people give a **** about these games.
Im not happy at all about these waste of space internationals. Again Southgate has picked all our England players, which means instead of getting a well earned rest after a long WC campaign, they’ll be chasing around Wembley on Sat night.
Why is a competitive international against Spain a waste of space exactly? I'm looking forward to seeing how this nations league works in the next 12-18 months.
Just another money making idea for me. If I was Poch I’d have refused to release our players after the WC and the start of the new season so soon afterwards. They’ve had no proper rest.
You really think it will be competitive? I think everyone else sees it for the gimmick it is - has the rules of international friendlies so I expect Southgate to field a different team at half time. Denmark are in the middle of a contract dispute and would rather field a team of lower league futsal players and YouTube "celebrities" because they don't care https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45382474
I'm willing to give it a chance, rather than outright dismiss it before seeing it in action. I think it might make it more interesting and largely eliminating friendlies is a good thing too. Pretty sure you can't make 11 changes even in friendlies anymore btw. I don't give a **** about Denmark either that's neither here nor there.
