No this isn't me coming out so don't get excited @Matth_2014 I watched a film last night called Milk.

    https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/milk/

Good film as it happens about the first openly gay man elected to office back in the 70's he was assassinated by a fellow politician. I think the film really showed the struggle of openly gay people back in the 70's where there was huge opposition to them and a fair amount of physical violence.

Made me rethink to a point all these gay pride marches and fights for gay marriage, I've always been a bit along the lines of "I don't care, do what you want" I didn't get why they wanted to make such a fuss about it.

The Imitation Game also shocked me where the man who pretty much won us WW2 was chemically castrated for being gay. It looks like it has been more of a struggle than I was aware of to be an openly gay person in modern society.

I don't know of anyone on here who is openly gay but the odds would suggest there are gay people who use this forum.

I doubt anyone on here would be openly gay because attitudes towards homophobia are generally 15/20 years behind those towards racism. Don't mean just here but generally in society, it will take a while for it to die out.

You're most likely right about the odds though.

I don't really understand racism or homophobia, I'm happy for people to do what they want. Some of the arguments from the opposition to the gay movement in the film were hilarious, accusing them of all sorts of depravity. I work with some people who are openly gay and they are just normal people.

Having visited Miami and Key West on many occasion, I would say being Gay is more open there than it is in many parts of the UK. I've also seen the pride marches on a couple of my visits. Along with the big fook off biker gangs coming into Town...not on the same day mind <laugh>

So what did i think of it, well one of the very noticeable things especially in Key West, was there was no air of trouble or crime that you may get during some British Carnivals ie Notting Hill, although to be fair that is on a grander scale. Also the lack of policing, basically there is no call for it, even with people openly drinking in the streets. Never been to the Brighton Gay Festival.

My view is live and let live.

If I was gay I’d like to think I’d be open about it on here. Difficult to say whether I actually would though as without being in that situation, it’s hard to call it.

I'd definitely be open on here if I was gay. No big deal is it? I'd be chatting you all up and ****.

There are some would take offence even at that bit Luv.

During the 90's it seemed like everyone at work (NHS in London) was trying it! More than half the senior management were gay. The youngun's were worried they'd make it compulsory <laugh>

Some of my best mates were gay. Got **** all to do with me or anyone else what they got up to behind closed doors, just didn't need to hear the details that some of them liked to spout off loudly about down the pub.

Many of them used to wear being gay like it was a badge of honour, and everyone had to know about it, but it seems to have quietened down, or matured more now.
