Didn’t catch the acrobats, but heard really good things about them EDIT..to be fair catching them wasn’t my job...they already had arrangements for that
Great day out today, smashing atmosphere in town. The Gandini jugglers' "Smash" was our favourite and was closely followed by the amazing jenga blocks performance in Trinity Square.
The Gandini Jugglers were unique indeed DA, never saw the Trinity Square thing, they were slick, and, oddly enough, I liked the music tracks they played, the one about Berlin was especially catchy I thought. I'm afraid I had other things to do on Saturday so although I got to town early, not a lot was going on and I missed the later shows. It always seems to be the same, whenever something is happening in Hull, some event, something crops up that I had to attend with. I think its the Heritage Open Days this week, I usually manage a few hours nosying around the various places open for public viewing, I did the vaults at a solicitors on Lowgate one year, this year I want to get to the University as I believe that the Brynmor Jones Library, Larkin land, is open this week.
I see that Colleen Nolan is coming to the Arena. After her recent controversy do you think she is likely to sell many tickets. It could be like going to a City home game except the singing will be worse
I thought the Gandini Jugglers were brilliant and saw them twice in two different locations. They were better at the Dock where it was much easier to see the full show whereas at Queens Gardens I felt the show was a bit compromised by the nature of the crowds making it much harder to see the full thing rather than bits of it between other people's heads etc. but also I felt they were a bit more careful around the carnage at the end with more people sitting closer to them. And, whilst somewhat annoying, this is a bit of an ear-worm isn't it?
We saw them yesterday, and thought they were superb. Later in the day I remarked to Mrs Two that I couldn't get that tune out of my head! The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Just got back from League of Gentlemen at the new Arena. They were very good, particularly when Reece Shearsmith slipped into his native accent for some “smerking” and then corpsed madly into a fit of giggles. Unfortunately it didn’t spread to “lercal shop for lercal people” and Tubbs and Edward kept their normal voices. Some things about the new Arena for anyone else going: The top tier is so far away as to be hopeless for any show that depends on you being able to identify the people on stage, let alone see their facial expressions. The back five or six rows are also above the air con vents and thus very hot. The stewards are useless and have no idea on the seating layout. Signage is poor. Top tier has a strange layout where you have to enter from the correct side for your seat. If you come up the wrong side of the building, the only way of getting from seat x40 to seat x10 in the middle section is to shuffle past everyone already seated. Or go down two flights of stairs, cross from one side of the building to the other on the first floor, and climb back up again. No gangway going across the balcony. Bizarre. Leaving is very very slow - no extra doors opened for exit. Ever been at the back of a jumbo jet emptying from the forward doors only? Lots of muttering about fire drills... ...and when the smoke from the final pyrotechnics rose to the back/top of the building, the inevitable happened and the fire alarms went off and we all had to leave immediately and in a hurry. People got a shift on then. On the plus side - seats were comfortable enough, and the sound was clear.
We also went, top class show, although much of the first half was a repeat of the last time we saw them at the City Hall years ago, but still worth watching. We had seats in the top section, Row JJ, and were quite happy with the view, and got out fairly quickly. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I'd echo most of that, it really needed a big screen, a show like that loses a lot if you can't see facial expressions. The place itself is good, the staff on the way in and out were excellent, but lacking a bit inside the venue. The food was terrible. Also, it's very odd that there's food/drink kiosks everywhere, but absolutely nowhere to put a drink down and hardly any bins. please log in to view this image
I’ve got tickets on the front row in Oct...for an Elvis impersonator ...no I don’t know why either Anyway I shall report back
Excellent can't beat the .king. Beauty of the Elvis impersonators, if they're good you've got great songs. If they're bad they're funny as ****
